Starting Monday

Posted in Getting started 05 Jun 2021

Hi, just new to this forum today. I am planning to stop on Monday but already anxious about it. I am 65 years old and have tried many times to quite but it has never stuck. I longest I have not smoked was for about 12 weeks and that was a few years ago. I really want to stop, health and finance reasons. Hate to admit that I think the finance reason is my most strongest, although my health would benefit soo much. Hope this forum helps.

Hey Rene! The anxiety before quit day got me too, it made the cigarettes I smoked before less enjoyable knowing that I was soon going to stop. Are you planning on using NRT's or is this pure willpower?

Hi Soren so good to hear from you. I have NRT ready. Patches lozenges and gum!

Even sharing my pre quit anxiety is helpful. Thanks for sharing.

Hello nanarene. Make this something that you want to do for yourself. You are worth it and you will be so proud of yourself. It is doable when we welcome the change in a positive manner. Learn and believe!

Hi Nanarene have found a very supportive, non judgemental forum here.
Don’t dread your quit day...get your mind and routines in order now. Look forward to all the wonderful ways in which your life is about to be enriched by your decision.
I quit in my mid sixties too...many years of being a slave to the nicotine. I did it and you can too. Nothing to fear and everything to look forward to. I could not imagine smoking now....such a waste of time, health, money. Life without smoking is truly wonderful. Nothing to fear, start changing your routines now, get a hobby that you can go to when you feel you need to occupy your hands and mind. Take one day at a time and fill that day with lots of activity. Go for walks, enjoy a hobby, cook, clean...just keep yourself busy. Like me, after hundreds of attempts, you can kick the slavery to cigarettes out of your life. Keep posting on this site and read lots of stories that will let you know you are not alone. Go girl!

I felt SO anxious before my quit day, and fair enough, it is a BIG deal. It really helped me to remember, I can always have a cigarette, just as I always have done, BUT today I am choosing NOT to have one, and then on and on it went!
It’s so unfair that the addiction we are able to buy because the government doesn’t care about us, is capable of stealing our will to want to be healthier! But it’s true, it is a strong grip those filthy stench machines.
Whatever you believe, it will be true! Sending you so much motivation and good will for tomorrow. :-)

Finance is certainly a good motivation. I can't believe the number of things I could do for my family just by not smoking for last 250 days. All the best. Looking forward for your updates.
