10 weeks and counting

Hi all,

After 20 years I have finally quit smoking. The cost and the dependence had finally got to me. I decided to go cold turkey and quit any triggers that could tempt me to get back on the band wagon (alcohol, coffee, ect)

10 weeks and counting have not picked up a cigarette and will never do so. First 2 weeks are hard but after that it gets so much easier.

At the moment I seem to be having difficulty breathing and have developed and anxiety from the breathing. I have a dry cough that comes and goes and my throat at times seems to flare up with mucus.

Not sure if anyone else has had this issue but is quite scary to say the least.

    I’m only on day 5. But I’ve never been nicotine free for one day. I’m nervous that it takes weeks not days. This is hard.

    You must be starting to feel many benefits. Concentrate on them and don't blame quitting smoking for things that went unnoticed prior. Some changes may occur while the body rids itself of toxins. Be thankful if your celia still work to clean the lungs of debris. You feel better, look better and definitely smell better in more ways than one. Everything tastes better too.! You must enjoy having the extra money for other things too. No downside long term to quitting Happy to be a non-smoker and issues will soon resolve themselves.

    First let me congratulate you on 10 weeks free from smoking so great to hear. Some people have what they call smokers flu, which basically means the toxins are being released from your body, others develop minor problems as their body changes. I did not have this problem, and would suggest it would have been there before and not related to quitting. Nicotine has taught us to rely on this drug to escape from many problems anxiety being one of them.

    At this stage you must really start to meditate and do your deep breathing everyday, just 10 mins will help. There are many apps to help you with this if you start your search, I just did my deep breathing with a longer controlled breath out. This might be enough.

    As to your cough and mucus it would be a good idea if you got this checked out by your doctor, if it has gone on too long., but for sure the deep controlled breathing does help with any anxiety. Take your time without over-reacting in any social interaction. Come back any time. NOPE (not one puff ever)
