My Helpful Thought for Today

Posted in Hints and tips 27 Oct 2020

My helpful thought that I have come up with in case I feel tempted today is: I prefer to breath instead of choking on phlegm.

I am going to use this as my response to any temptation today.

Hi Pozz. The wake up call you respond to is so powerful. Trust you will listen to your inner self when things get tough. You have survived the toughest part in quitting so have faith in your beliefs.

    Hi Pozz and All,

Thats a powerful thought - nice one..
I also remember ages ago someone who quit kept using 'I will not be defeated by a plant' as a way to fight off craves... Has worked for me a few times.. Now my craves are almost non-existent, just going through insomnia phase atm :-]

Water is good for flushing out the nicotine, but 12 glasses seems extreme. Exercise and deep breathing feed the body and calm and mind, a win win. I think that your thought for today is current and true where as I prefer to live rather than die does not have the impact even if more drastic.

I still prefer the positive aspects though rather than a choice. Presumably we have already made the choice to quit so it is just looking forward now.
    I am in control now
    I will win my freedom
I am proud to have made this wonderful change
I am a non-smoker and so much better off for it
I love myself and my family and I want more in life

Of course you are doing great Pozz.... whatever works for the individual. We can quit smoking.

Hi Pozz, You have make a wise decision to quit smoking and start a healthy life. Drink a glass of water after every hour, 12 Glass of water in 12hours. It will help you in withdrawal.

Carrying a water bottle around and sipping on it if having a withdrawal is another helpful thing for me.

Adult colouring in is a new fun hobby and focusing on the colours as you colour in can train your mind to focus only on what’s in front of you and it quietens the mind chatter.

Another tip is if having a withdrawal is to get out into the backyard and take a brisk walk around the fence borders and keep on going while saying your daily helpful thought/mantra.

Cleaning something that you’ve been putting off is another great way. Or doing that DIY project that you keep walking past.

And sometimes just stopping altogether and just closing my eyes and telling myself to breathe is nice and peaceful too.
