I ended up in Accident and Emergency

I was a very heavy drinker, well let's be honest, I was an alcoholic. Of course, this meant I was also a very heavy smoker, up to 40 cigarettes a day while I drank all day. A few weeks ago I had a massive flare-up of inflammation and my immune system basically quit on me. While I was in hospital I was diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Bronchitis. I thought it was just a smoker's cough. Since then I have done an alcohol detox in hospital. We were not allowed to smoke, so were given patches for the 4 days. Giving up the grog wasn't too hard so I figured I want to give up the ciggies as well. They are costing me $230 a week which is madness on my very low income!.

Well dzm29 you have many good reasons to be very happy that you are quitting a lethal and expensive addiction. Times two is very ambitious but very doable.

When a time comes that we just say enough is enough and are sincere about it we can adopt the mindset and attitude to change the course of things. Wanting something more than you want to continue with a destructive habit makes it much easier. Envision yourself in a better place a few weeks from now. Money in pocket, breathing so much better, clear headed and feeling so proud of yourself for taking the initiative.

In reality you are giving up nothing, but gaining so much. You deserve more in life and it starts here and now. Read and learn and continue to take the steps needed like joining a forum for support and guidance. You can do this, just think positive!
