I need help

Hi everyone, I haven’t been on here for a very long time. I’ve tried so many times to give up. I need help🙁 I need motivation & support with quitting.

    When the cravings kick in we have a remarkable ability to forget the reasons we have for quitting. Influenced by an intense desire for the drug I forget the gasping for breath, the nausea, the worrying about whether I will have enough cigarettes to get me through till I can buy more etc etc. We can all add our own personal reasons to this list.
    I would strongly recommend you write a list of your reasons to quit and review it regularly.
    Try not to give in to fear; quitting is frightening. We think we are losing an old buddy and that life will never be fun again (Honestly, how much fun is smoking?)
    The thing is that fear only leads you back to the cigarettes. This is why I don't believe you can scare a person into quitting. Others may have different opinions on this but the irony is that if I sit and dwell on the scary part of smoking, cancer, clogged airways and so on, it is likely to lead me back to the smokes.
    The same can be said for the fear of quitting. For some people this is so strong that they never even try to stop - but they would never admit it was fear that held them back, probably never even identify it as such.

    Instead of thinking fearfully try to get excited about quitting. Try to think of it as a new adventure. If you were going to a health resort where you knew they would feed you a tough diet, make you exercise, work on yourself, you would be excited about it nevertheless.

    Be objective about your withdrawals; Is it really like open heart surgery without anaesthetic? Or having your leg chopped off?
    Isn't it more like a mild cold? In fact if a friend asked you to go to the movies you would not say, "Sorry, I'm too sick from nicotine withdrawals." It is more likely you would go and enjoy the show.

    Remind yourself that this is a temporary condition and you never have to go through it again . . . provided you don't smoke.

    I hope this helps. These are ideas that have helped me stop and stay stopped.

    Every time you look into your children's eyes , see their fear. We all cringe at the mention of the big C. They know you lost a piece of your toe and can't but fear what they will lose next. You want it for them.

    Well Kylie it sounds like you have got heaps of good reasons and motivation to make this your last quit. Get your head in the right mindset. You want this for yourself and you want it more than you want to smoke. One day at a only have to get through tomorrow...don’t look too far ahead...take it one day at a time. Don’t feel that it will be hard, don’t fear happy about it and fill any down time with something. A hobby, a game with your kids anything that gets you through each day. You can do this...anyone just need to want to quit more than you want to smoke.
    I smoked for nearly fifty years and I had many quit attempts.....but once I got my mindset right and starting hating and I mean really hating the whole idea of smoking...I was able to never want another smoke ever. I am at 540 something days now and it was the best thing I have ever done for myself. You can do it too. Stay strong and remember you won’t crave what you don’t want. Stay strong and focused on one day at a time x

    Want to be healthy n happy. Get back in2
    Exercises & walking. I haven’t been able 2 because
    I’ve just had a cancer cut of my toe n I can’t go walking or exercise 🙁

    Hi Kylie, so pleased you have come back here for support. You are saying you need motivation....ask yourself why you want to quit? There is your motivation...if it is because of health, because of money, because you are just sick of smoking...whatever the reasons are...they are your motivation. Are you using any aids to help you such as patches, gum etc? Plan a quit date.....between now and whatever date you choose try and change your mindset about smoking. Teach your self to see it for what it really is, the truth. It does nothing for you....except keep you on the never ending cycle of needing nicotine. Look forward to your quit date..don’t fear it. This will be the first day towards a whole new you, so embrace it. Start to tell yourself I hate cigarettes, they stink, they are slowly killing me and I just hate them. This self talk might seem silly but it works. If you can change how you think and feel about smoking and hate will soon see that you don’t want it in your life anymore....and we don’t crave what we don’t want. Come to this site as often as you can and post your feelings and take the support from others that will get you through. Quitting is only as hard as we make it for ourselves. If you feel sad about quitting and feel like you are missing will have a much harder time. You can do this......many of us have and it is a much better life without smoking. If you haven’t read Allen Carr’s book...Easyway to quit smoking...I suggest you is a great help with changing your mindset. Hope this has helped and visit this site as often as you can x
