Quitting

I am quitting smoking today, cold turkey 🦃. Ive smoked a pack a day for 15 years. Ive quit once before, for 5 months. I started smoking again in October after spending 6 days with my Mom while she was dying. I haven't stopped again since then, but I am ready now. I feel drained, tired, headaches, heart palpitations, anxiety & short of breath while smoking. I felt so much better, vibrant & energized when I stopped. I know this will be hard, and Im hoping to find support and resources here.

    This is a fantastic community to help quit. I suggest going through and reading peoples stories both old and new. Really helped me with motivation.
    I know how tough it is. We all do. But everyone who has quit will tell you the same thing....its absolutely worth it!
    You'll notice tastes and smells youve long forgotten, and also remember its easy to breathe and walk up stairs.

    Thank you everyone. Its been almost 20 hrs. since my last smoke. A few times I almost gave up but Im glad I didnt. I find if I can distract myself & ride the craving out for a few minutes it passes & Im relieved I didnt give up. I lie to myself, telling myself it will relax me. Such crap! Its not relaxing at all. Its a stimulant. It makes my heart race, hands shake & breathing unsteady.

    Hi Butterfly, a good start is to stop telling yourself it will be hard to quit. Look forward to it, feel positive about it. It will be as hard or as easy as you allow yourself to think it will be. One day at a time and you will get there. Our mindset really is the key. You can and will do this.

    Hey Butterfly. Day 2 , well done. You have quit before, so you know you can do it. Be strong and hang in there. The first few days is the hardest and then it is so much easier.

    Day 3. I want to smoke right now. Like, physically want it. Im super irritated. Any words of wisdom?

    Hang in there Butterfly. Deep breaths and drinks of water. Find something else to think about. Cravings dont last long. Be positive and you will win. You dont want to go back to day 1 do you ?
