I DID IT..

schedule 26 Sep 2018

On this day 3 years ago was the start of a new way of living without smokes, a new journey without being controlled by smokes, which i tell myself they were/are false friends.they were always there for me but for all the wrong reasons, but when i was a smoker, they were there for the right ones..

For my 3 years i have saved and stashed away $20,280...

I dont smell of an ashtray, my house or car now smells lovely, dont have to make sure i have enough smokes or lighter when i leave the house... no thoughts of these now when i grab my keys of purse...

Never thought it was possible for me to achieve where i am at today to say or put into print

3 years without a smoke to my lips...wow what a personal journey, the ups n downs..

There are moments i still have to keep myself in check, but mostly its a passing pang, which i still give myself a stern talking to...lol.

Self discovery, having the confidence in myself to let go of a drug and habit and survive...not being dependant on smokes didn't kill me, being positive, even being selfish at times..had to be, this was my greatest chance to succeed, i wanted to be the winner and here i am to say...

I am a smoker that has chosen not to smoke no more

I DID IT.

Hi Jenno211058. 3 years nicotine free is a huge milestone. Congratulations to you. Makes one wonder why we ever started. Your last line sums it up. Once a smoker, always a smoker, just some of us choose not to light up. Not easy and we remain vigilant knowing how easy it would be to reverse that success. May we always remember how torturous those first few minutes, hours, days etc were.

Congratulations Jenno! Three years is amazing! I remember always thinking of the big 3's at the start of my quit. 3 days, 3 weeks and 3 months. You've now hit the fourth 3 with 3 years. Next up, 30 years! I hope you remember to reward yourself with something special to mark the occasion.

Lia, you are absolutely right in saying "may we always remember how torturous those first few minutes, hours, days etc were". I rarely get cravings now (almost 2 years quit), but the first thing I try to think about is one night in particular when I was approximately 6 months quit. I remember I had to go to bed extremely early so as not to have to deal with the craving. That sucked and I never want to have to take such drastic measures again over something as stupid as a cigarette.
