Quit date set

Hi.

I am 46 yrs old and have never tried quitting smoking - for decades I've been well aware of the impact of smoking on all levels - but as I am sure you can all so relate, an addict actually doesn't care about the negatives and follows through with the next fix and "makes sense" of the habit it to the endth degree.

My journey of bondage, and internal tug of war is now unmanageable and can no longer be sustained emotionally.

With all of this internal struggle on a daily basis, guilt-ridden by bedtime, the next day the smoking continues - the mind and body constantly on the battle field.

I am elated to have found this on-line community to whom I can be accountable without feeling pressurised, but inspired instead. This is after being on the Allen Carr course and smoking the very next day, after reading article after article, after telling myself for years that it must stop.

My Quit Date is set for 1 Oct.

I look forward to letting you know how my 1st day went.

    Well Rene,, Welcome :)
    What is the plan ? And why wait till Oct. 1st ? :) Seriously, whatever works for you.. I have heard that Allen Carr's book, or course, has worked for many people.. But, we all know, that smoking makes you stupid, and blind.. You can break free of it, and take your brain back.. I smoked for 45 years, and only really tried to quit once,, 7 months ago.. You can do it too :) Are you willing to continue being a slave to a little tube of tobacco ?? Say NO. Take control of your mind, and your body.. Just do it, because you can...

    Hello Red-67

    It's precisely the enslavement part that I want to break free from.
    Went with advice on this site of setting my quit date within 2 weeks and preparing my mind for it.
    Thank you for the encouragement - it is much needed.

    Hi Rene;
    No prob,, Do what works for you.. I will suggest, over the next days, when you light one, really just look at it. Let yourself really see that this little thing is running your life.. Let yourself start to think like a non-smoker. That was really the key to my quit. Once the blinds started to open, and I could see the truth, I just didn't want them.. I had 3 packs, and my plan was to cut down, over a few weeks, and then Cold Turkey.. I never opened the third pack. As I began to see ( this thing is running my life ? ) I lost interest in them.. I did not WANT it any more... Sure, there will be misery, and confusion, but the fight is all in your mind. It can be as easy as you make it..
