Not one puff

Just checking in ....have started again....no cigs , ashtrays or lighter will ever come in my home again,not one puff will ever happen again for I have learnt my lesson....have used a patch today and not one craving....will continue to use patch for a week then go cold turkey again...all have a smoke free weekend.

    That's great.. Just go for it :) You can beat this..
    Just a question, and Kim used the patches, so she may be able to help.. Would it be better, or safer, to slowly taper off of it ? If you stop abruptly, you get hit with that craving really hard ? I am all for cold turkey, but it's hard. At least with the patch, you fight the habit first, and then ease into the addiction.. Just a thought. Go for it.. Whatever works for you. We are rooting for you :)

    Hi red-67 never thought of that,so I will slowly taper off , but I really won't to flush the nicotine out quickly that why I would like to go cold turkey, so here is the plan .....patches for a week and then taper off the next week.....then cold turkey and then if craving are bad I will put patch on for a few hours.....what do you think.

    I understand the cold turkey. I had the same feeling. Hit it head on, and get through it, as fast as possible.. Mine was 3 really bad weeks, then into 4th, week, busted out into freedom. I focused on the fact that I had been so foolish, a slave to a smoke, to the point of obsession. I made myself hate them, to the point that I could not even want, or crave one.. If you can find a mindset like that, it may help you too.. Turn anything you remember as good, about smoking, around to what it really is. This fight is mostly in your head, with the body kicking and screaming at the same time :)

    Hiya,

    I know that you desperately want to quit cold turkey and are only wearing a patch until you get your mindset back.
    So with cold turkey in mind and getting rid of the patch in a week, I would reduce the amount of time you wear it for the day by an amount of time you feel comfortable with every day. Perhaps you will start gaining you're confidence back that way and then when you're ready, see how you go.
    As you would know, the patch isn't giving you big rushes of nicotine, far from it.

    I am quitting today. This is my last pack ever. I hate them. I hate being controlled by them. I hate hate hate it.

    I am going to use a patch just to try and make it easier. But I have read that using a patch is worse cos you are still getting nicotine and therefore not ridding your body of it. I am in two minds really but I have bought them already so I shall see.

    You can do this and so can I

    AnnieBear...That is great ....So proud of you....Start with the patches they will help with the cravings. Make sure you buy some vitamin B1 it will help with stress. Drink plenty of water and I eat lots of fruit .Also it is good to ring the Quitline they are really good and help you too stay motivated .......Surf the net , lots of help there (Allan Carr's book) also great reading....Good luck I know you will do this......Just say to yourself NOPE which means Not One Puff Ever. And post everyday we are all here to help everybody.
