9 MONTHS TODAY !!

Hi all

It's been a while since I last posted and great to see so many new contributors in the community too sharing your journeys advice and experiences.

For me it's now 9 months smoke free today!!! I'm still thrilled with each new month under my belt and now having two or three days pass regularly without even a thought of smoking is something I never thought would be possible.

If you've failed once or lots of times like me, don't be hard on yourself and treat each stumble as a practice run for the real thing. Once I couldn't get past 3 days...then it was two and four weeks. I made 4 months once and stupidly thought one smoke wouldn't hurt. For a while there I used to curse the desire to smoke after being good for soooo long. When will these damned urges ever leave me alone !?!?

Well they do...slowly but surely they tire and haunt us less and less with each passing day.

I'm not out of the woods...i don't think any long time smoker ever is, but I can see over the horizon now and with diligence and awareness I believe I'm on the way to freedom from this horrid habit once and for all.

Good luck to everyone else travelling this journey...

Hi. I do believe this is a life long quest. Don't want to call it a battle. Honestly, once a smoker, always a smoker. Just can choose not to light up. Have you ever heard a non smoker say they would love a ciggie? Never smoked, wouldn't have a clue. An ex smoker can always relate to some situation where lighting up was the way to go. Unfortunately there is no stopping once one has started. A cigarette is not a reward for any major achievement because one is never quite enough...

    Hi Steve,

    Congrats on your 9 months!!!

Just be careful with your alcohol intake if you are a drinker, because i think that this is the situation when we are most vulnerable :D at least me. It is dangerous because i ruined a 3 month quitting period for just one night of a bit too much drinking.

By the way i am into my 11 month of not taking a single puff.

No matter how long we've been smoker free we must never let out guard down!!!

Cheers Ivan... yep, I am well aware of the drinking trap as it brought me back to starting out again a couple of times in the past when it was too early to feel confident. I have to say though, it does strengthen one each time we drink with others and we survive it but for me that was not possible until about 5 to 6 months quit. I look forward to knowing I am only 4 weeks off the big milestone as you are at this point. Well done to you too.
