Staying Quit - Because I can!

Posted in Staying quit 17 Sep 2020

It is day 36 and I feel like having a smoke, a cigarette. It is really full on! But, I'm not going to. I have come too far to go back, because all that would happen is I would take a few drags, feel a bit dizzy and think how wonderful that is and then realise what have I done??!! So I am going to save myself that old familiar anguish and say "No" to my self. Otherwise I'll be hooked right ba...

    Keeping it Simple

Posted in Staying quit 12 Sep 2020

I'm really stoked that I've reached 1 month today. If anyone is battling, keep it simple, just get through today without having one. It today is too much, break it down into hours or minutes, knowing that if I can make it through 1 minute I can make it through the next one, and before long it is hours and hours turn to days. And days become a month. That is what I have done and it works. If ...

    Acknowledge the Good

I went to shop at one of my favourite stores "Officeworks" and as i got out of the car I suddenly realised "I'm free!" I'm free of this cursed habit of Smoking! It was a liberating moment. Smoking used to determine when I got up in the morning, how many cups of coffee I would have, while it was rapidly sending me broke! I literally smoked, on average, 23 smokes a day @ $1.50 per cig it was a ...

I have had more quit dates than I have bought cigarettes. Quitting isn't easy, but it is worth it. My main strategy is using the "day at a time" principle. I only have to get through today, I know from talking to friends that it will get better. I let go of any thoughts about having to quit for the rest of my life. Ultimately I will be doing that, but I will be doing it one day at a time, on...

    Just put them down

It doesn't matter what my excuse was, we come unstuck if we listen to those excuses. I had a smoke and it didn't do anything for me. I knew right then I had to put them down and keep them down. I threw out the remaining cigarettes and I've stayed smoke free since then. If you are tempted, forget it, they aren't worth it. Just put them down and stay put down! Things will then improve one day ...

    Chronic smoker

Posted in Getting started 25 May 2015

Hi, I'm definitely a chronic smoker. I've had various attempts over the years (40 years a smoker), once I went 2 years. So anyway I've started again today. I'm using a patch and I started at 2:30pm today. So its 4 hours since then and I told my wife "I really feel like a smoke now!" to which she replied, "Log on to the iCanQuit site. So here I am. She asked me what my strategy is and I said,...
