    Grief

It's really weird but over the past few days (I'm now in Week 3) I've been feeling like I'm grieving. Has anyone else experienced sadness after they've stopped smoking?

    Unexpected Advantage

One unexpected advantage of stopping smoking is not feeling stressed at Christmas. In years past, I was always worried that I wouldn't have enough money to buy Christmas presents for my children and grandchildren as well as buy cigarettes and food.

    Day 2

It's my first day of being smoke free today. I am determined never to buy another packet of cigarettes. Zyban has helped me a lot. In the past two weeks I went from smoking 20 cigarettes a day to smoking four. When I got to four a day, I realised that I probably no longer had a strong physical nicotine addiction any more but I am psychologically addicted. I am determined to take control of my lif...

    Well On My Way

Posted in Getting started 11 Dec 2015

I'm only days away from my quit date and I've managed to cut the number of cigarettes I smoke to 1/3. I've also managed to identify my triggers which are when I wake up and after I have a meal. I delay having a cigarette after those times by distracting myself and am having some success. I know that those times are going to be the worst in terms of cravings after my quit date. I figure maybe a wa...

    A Better Day 8

Posted in Getting started 9 Dec 2015
    2 Comments

I've had a much better Day 8 than Day 6. I went to see my GP and she was amazed that I'd cut my cigarette use down by almost 1/3. I have another 9 days to cut down as much as I can by my quit date; 17 December. I want to give my family something they've asked for for a long time when I see them at Christmas and on Boxing Day; that I'm finally smoke-free. They all managed to beat their habits but ...

    Bad Day 6

Even though I'm on Day 6 of the leadup to stop smoking, and I'm on the 3rd day of taking Zyban, I am not having a good day at all. Chemist told me today that everything that contains caffeine makes your body get rid of nicotine faster so your cravings are worse just after you consume them. Anything, Dear Lord, but don't take my morning cuppa!

    Day 2

Day 2 of Zyban therapy and not much has changed except I have realised I haven't really craved a cigarette and I just smoke from habit. No side effects from medication so far. One more day tomorrow of 1 tablet per day and then it's up to two. It will be interesting to see what happens. Only 12 days to go until Quit Day. I can't wait! (Remind me of this post if I go through withdrawal then :) )

I have finally been encouraged by my new GP to start the journey toward no longer smoking cigarettes. I start tomorrow with the aid of medication, and ongoing support from Quitline and my GP.
