I ‘ve been smoking for almost 60 years. I quit once for about 5 years. I’ve quit many other times. I used to smoke cigarettes but I’m smoking cheap cigars now. My lungs are bad and getting worse. I have to quit or I think I will die in the next year or two. I smoke in secret. I’m sure my wife knows and some of my golf friends. I am determined to quit this time. I’d appreciate any help I can get i...
Happy new smokeless year everyone! I have been going to the gym for the past two week and this has been a great help in my 12 day quit
I am older than the seven seas,
I am stronger than the tallest oaks.
I will always endure.
I will never be completely gone,
Look around and you will find me
For I will not leave you alone
Not so bad, because I still have a cold and cough so that makeshifts it easier to say NO. I wa
So far so good. It hasn’t but that’s hard, partly because I st
I am back again. I have been having more trouble breathing lately and currently have bronchitis and a bad cough. I tried to quit about 6months ago but failed miserably. I don’t smoke cigarettes but am addicted to cheap cigars. If I don’t quit now I am sure I won’t see my grandkids graduate from high school. I’m also sure my wife will be left a widow for many years. I feel really lousy about all t...
I have been here before but failed to quit. My lungs are bad, but i keep on smoking. I’m really stupid. I’m going to try again on Wednesday when igo visit my grandkids for a couple of days. I hope that will give me a good start. Maybe my lungs can recover a bit
Here I go again! Tomorrow is my new quit date. I abstained for 70 hours last time, and my goal now is to beat that and then continue nicotine free the rest of my life. I know it's not easy to overcome this addiction, but I also know millions of people have done it. So am I just a weakwilled sucker? No, I've got just as much willpower as most people, so I should be able to do this. And I wil...
Well, I succumbed today and bought some cigars. I apologize to all who supported me so far. I'll try again in a few days. I think maybe I got too cocky. I made it for 70 hours, the best I've done in a long time.
If it wasn't for this site, I would be sitting outside right now, probably on my second cigar of the day. I am so grateful I found this site, as I have been fooling myself for years that I will quit soon, but this is the first genuine effort I have made, and so far everything is going well. Thanks to all.
It is just about 42 hours since my last cigar. I played golf yesterday and didn't smoke, even though I was offered a cigar by a friend at the golf course. I was proud to say I had quit! I think just telling people you have quit is a strong reinforcement. Also, they mostly are happy for you and congratulate you on your wisdom. Praise is good! I'm still eating chips, strawberry pastries and c...
I am smoke free now for 20 hours. I passed the first moment of temptation this AM when I drove past the store where I usually buy my cigars and didn't stop. Yesterday evening, Instead of smoking a cigar, I ate Doritos chips, Russell stover chocolates and strawberry cheese pastries. I don't think I can do that every day, but maybe this evening I'll try it again. I've been reading Sue Grafton m...
I smoked my last cigar and quit at 2;10PM today. It is 3 days earlier than I had planned as a quit date, but I figured better now than later.I sucked that last one right down to the nubbin, until it was practically burning my fingers. The last few puffs tasted really horrible, more tar than anything. I spilled ash on my favourite sweater, but at least I didn't burn a hole in it. I have ruined...
Hi Folks, I have 2 cigars left. My quit date is 3 days away, but I'm going to advance it to tomorrow. I probably should just throw these 2 away, but I won't. It's raining all day today, so I have nothing to do except read. Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny and warm and I will be free of cigars.
My quit date is 6 days away. Ihave been cutting down on cigar smoking. I usually had 5-7 cigars per day. I've gone down to 4 and then 3. Yesterday it was just 2. So far, so good. I've already smoked 1 today in a moment of weakness. Maybe 1 more later today and i'll be satisfied that the plan is working.
Here's another reason to quit that doesn't get much publicity. Bladder cancer is due to smoking in about 90% of cases. It is treatable to some extent, especially when low grade, but constantly recurs. High grade bladder cancer is about 50% fatal. Treatment consists of removing the bladder and often having an external plastic bag on the abdomen to collect the urine.
The 1st sign is usually he...
I am 71 years old and a doctor. I started smoking cigarettes at about age 11. I smoked a pack a day from about age 20 to age 58 , when I quit cold turkey. I stayed quit for about 5 years, until a friend had a baby and gave me a cigar as a celebration. I smoked that and continued with occasional cigars, gradually becoming less occasional and more frequent. They were expensive though, until I ...
