I am 60, smoked since I was 13 and am or was the heaviest smoker I knew. I successfully quit half a dozen times, it was staying quit that defeated me. I have a hubby and daughter who both smoke and I am weak, if they are laying around I am sorely tempted, but after being a 50+ a day smoker if I smoke one I no longer feel a failure and keep going.as you can see by my joining date of 2016 this is not my first rodeo but this time I have got past 5 weeks, my previous best attempt. I find I can walk away very easily now. My secret to success this time is setting goals. I needed new glasses desperately, I now have them. My car needed repair, it is fixed. And I was able to buy my daughter 2 tickets to an expensive concert for her birthday without asking anyone else to share the expense with me. my next goal is an expensive one, I need new dentures and I know if I buy cigarettes I will not get them. And I can't afford to retire if I am still smoking, my entire pension would go on smokes, but that's alright cause I won't live long enough to get a pension my doc says. I have grand kids I want to enjoy a while longer. BUT I do wish my family would stop too and take all temptation away from me. 9 weeks quit with just a couple of slip ups and I no longer have any temptation to buy any. I AM SO PROUD OF MYSELF!!!!!

Now that's the attitude of a happy non-smoker! Welcome dulcify . You may be a long time member, but I do hope that you join us frequently to reinforce your quit and stay motivated in reaching your goals. Isn't it a great feeling to be proud of ourselves? And so we should be, for we did not only quit smoking but opened a whole new way of life with goals, dreams, longevity and happiness. Money spend on necessitates rather than skimping, I b itch about the price of food going up over the past couple of years, yet I spent less than what i spend on an addiction. Funny, I notice too that i b itch about it more now that i have quit smoking. I guess it is because I have other "goals" that I am anxious to achieve and spend my money on. I quit work and quit smoking at the same time and then made up my mind that if i quit smoking i would also retire. You may get to retire early now as well.

I got far more accomplished when i had goals, than when not. When you strive for something you make a plan, envision it and implement the plan. This journey is no different. Plan It. Envision It. Impliment It. Believe It. You Will Get There.

Staying quit is indeed the crux of the matter, on and off the merry-go-round. You should feel proud of yourself with so much temptation around you Your goals do work. Our teeth are effected by smoking very much so, and this is part of our health too. Get some new whiter ones and flash your smile to your nearest and dearest.

Well done, you are not alone. Quitting is the best decision you can make for yourself. Every time you think you may want a cigarette just say NO and remind yourself or all the benefits you have gained as a non-smoker.

Thats the spirit Dulcify,

Think of all the positives and they will certainly out weighy the negatives

The price of ciggies now... and they will continue to increase... we will not afford them when

when we are of pension age.

The other day i was down at the supermarket...i asked the girl what a pkt of White Ox 50gram

is now and she said $85.00 and i was consuming that brand when i was smoking nearly 3 pkts a week

So definatley couldn't afford them now...

Great incentive not to take it up again...

Keep up your great work...
