30 Days Smoke Free But Weight Gain

I am happy I have lasted 30 Days. But I am 5 kilograms heavier.
I actually told myself, "better chubby than being at a risk of lung cancer". But weight gain has its own health issues as well. Is anyone else gaining weight?
I am not as snappy or irritable like I was 2 weeks in but I am eating a lot. I know I should "exercise", "eat healthy" or "not overeat" but it is hard.

Hi Kennie,
Congratulations on completing one month of not smoking. it is a great achievement and I hope you are rewarding yourself today on this accomplishment. (please do not reward yourself with a cigarette though ;-) jk)
I understand your concern about gaining weight. Since smoking increases metabolism in the body, it results in decrease in weight of smokers. Subsequently, when you quit, there is a decrease in metabolism of the body which causes weight gain. Moreover, since the sense of smell and taste also improves, we enjoy eating more and increase our appetite.
HOWEVER, it has been statistically proven that the improvement in stamina after quitting results in a long term DECREASE in weight because now you can exercise more - you can walk more, you can run more than you could when you were smoking.
In a nutshell, stick to not smoking and start exercising. It will not only help you loose weight but also inspire you to stay away from the menace.
Cheers

Thank you Adnan for your comment clarifying my dilemma. I am putting in 2 days a week on the treadmill, will gradually increase it.
Cheers and all the best on your Quit Journey as Well.
