Hi everyone, 28days smoke free and saved over a $1000 OMG
I was a smoker for 34 years and about 6 weeks ago I ended up in hosptal with my blood pressure sitting at 190/140. Whilst sitting in emergency I was thinking ... I need to make some major changes NOW. I am 48 years, (was) heavy smoker and overweight, I was a time bomb ready to explode.
I had tried patches and gum in the past but still smoked so I decided to try Champix. I have to be honest I did not think they would work and but after a week my mindset really started to change I started thinking maybe i can quit, think of the money I will save? So in week 2 I started to think I am going to do this, I decided to change my routine as I always found that this was the hardest thing to cope with when going cold turkey. So in week 2 I did not smoke first thing in the morning ( or during the night) I had breakfast first, I stopped smoking in my car and each day just delayed my next smoke by another hour.
I would be lying if I said it was easy but here I am 28 days smoke free. I feel excited and optimistic about my future for the first time in years. I have been really struggling to make end meet over the last few years knowing deep down it is because the rising costs of smokes but not admitting it. I was getting to the point where I was just working to pay the mortgage and smoke. I now am dreaming of saving my money to go on a holiday lol just need to lose the weight first then I will be jet setting all over the world :)
I just wanted to share my story because I honestly thought I would always be a smoker, I having been reading the stories on here for the last 6 weeks and they have motivated me and kept me on track when feeling really low.
So to all the newbies out there if I can ...you can

I was a heavy smoker too, 35 yrs of polluting my lungs with Cigarettes, Iv'e always tried to keep fit but as i got older I started to develop skin cancer from being out in the sun all day working and I loved fishing as a result I retired early and become house bound I couldn't go anywhere or do anything without a Smoke hanging out of my mouth finally it caught up with me. its taken me 7 weeks to finally go 22 Days without a smoke. I couldn't do it cold turkey so I don't count the 4 weeks of torment I went thru before I finally stopped. After doing the leg work of weening myself off and finding a way to get used to living without having a smoke Id saved enough money to buy a PC and Discovered I wasn't the only one out there doing it hard reading of the many battlers like yourself gave me the inspiration to join ICQ and find a Quit Buddy to participate in a like minded community offering advice and support in return for advice and support, I hope you have got your health problems in check and wish you all the best on your Journey and hope to hear from you in the future.
