Never quit quitting.

Hello and thank you for taking the time to read my changes in view about smoking, what caused it, and why I'm here.
I am a 22 year old male smoking 4 years currently, I started smoking at 17 initially. Didn't like it. So I stopped. At the age of 18 I started university. I became a social smoker and continued to smoke until current day. Presently, I have 7-9 cigarettes a day. I feel my lungs wearing down like there's something inside my body hitting my left lung or chest every time I breathe in. I've experienced short breath after running really fast and takes me up to 25 minutes to allow my throat and lungs to cool down. I always always have a stuffy or blocked nose every morning.
And that's just the start. The reason why I'm quitting is because my girlfriend who I don't see often, as we are in a long distance relationship, came to visit us at a family event. She arrived 3 days before the event and left 2 days after it was done.
In those 5 days we didn't talk much. We got mad at eachother and as a result I did not go to my own family event, but my girlfriend went instead.
As a result my cousin, who's event that happened, got very angry and told my girlfriend that I've been smoking for quite a long time.
I lied to my girlfriend a while ago that I don't smoke and that I have stopped a few months before we got into a relationship.
I realize I hid it for too long, I lied to her from the start and kept lying to her as time went on. I feel horrible but I didn't want her to go.
So after she was told she asked me how will she know if I won't do it again. I said I would prove it to her. I really feel horrible, and I want to change my self for the better. I don't know how but maybe she will see these blogs one day.
Lately as I've been smoking. I get really tired after the ciggy. After that I feel distracted. I don't finish my work on time. I'm scrambling last minute.
I also see this as an opportunity for me to improve not only my physical health but also my mental health. Hopefully. I anticipate on the change. As I'm recording my non smoking days.
Thus. I am writing my blogs to you for feedback on how to quit for good. I am going cold turkey. I'm going to go with chewing gum and water for cravings. Any irritable long cravings, I would like to go for a long walk and think about my family and gf.
It's what's important to you that matters the most to you.
But if you're important to others, what matters to them the most is you.
I'm done for good. I don't care who told my girlfriend. I don't care about why they said that. But I just wish I never hurt her like the way I did yesterday.
Thank you for taking this read.
Have a great one.

Hello LRay. Congratulations for quitting an awful habit like smoking. Keep going hand to mouth habit is hard to break. So..make sure you have a plan, since quitting smoking is a process. But... nicotine addiction can be powerful, and you have to battle with yourself with strong cravings to want to smoke that moment. Create distractions, plenty of exercise, bottle water, sweets, etch,. Best wishes. Keep us posted!!

I am sure that if you show your girlfriend that you're serious about quitting she will support you. Please remember smoking doesn't relieve stress. It's a stimulant; the same as coffee, tea, cola and energy drinks, so it can't. Try not to have those types of drinks while quitting as they clear nicotine from your system quickly and can make you feel anxious. I agree; cold water, chamomile tea with honey if you like a hot, sweet drink, if you get a craving for a cigarette distract yourself as long as you can by doing something else, go for a run, take a walk or buy yourself a basketball with the money you save on cigarettes, find your closest court and shoot some hoops, go back and do more study. You're young and you have your whole life ahead of you. Think of what you'll be able to do with the money you save and a university education!
