Hello, Yes it does get better. First of all, you must want to quit. Anyone can quit, and it's a process. You have to have a game plan to quit. I smoked for 25 years, pk a day smoker. One day I told myself that I am tired of smoking, and anything associated with it. With that I quit cold turkey. I put the cigarette down, and never smoke again. I just love not smoking I feel like a new person, just awesome!!! I don't think about smoking at all. My game plan was lots of exercise, drinking plenty of water. It can be done. Good luck to you! Quitting smoking is the best thing you can do for yourself!

Great job...as you say it's all a mind game and it's not that bad if you really want it....

Thank u, nodrah. You must really want to quit smoking, or else your mind will play all kinds of tricks on u. Then before you know it your back smoking. The first thing I did of course is stop smoking, I focus my mind in learning about nicotine addiction. How to beat it basically. I created a lot of distractions, in the early part of my quit. Lots of exercise, walking, drinking plenty water. Join this site on my first day of quit. After 2 to 3 months, the addiction is broken, and I am free. Over a year later I am very much a non smoker, and very happy about me. I will not smoke again. Good luck! You can do it. It can be done.

Congratulations. These are the stories we need to hear. I agree you need a game plan. I created a tool box which had all sorts of things to help me : research, Zyban, meditation, long walks, supportive friends and, of course, this site. Knowing what others have gone through and are going through really does help. So thank you for posting.

Hi Fullofhope. Thank you. You are doing good yourself. I would like to say, to everybody that you can quit smoking if you really give it a chance. And once the addiction to nicotine is broken you are free. The best thing we could do for ourselves is quit smoking. There is nothing like it! Just wonderful to be smoke-free. So..do everything in your power to quit! Love yourself! Peace.

I know I can quit. Both the Community Nurse and the Quitline think I'm putting too much pressure on myself. They think I need to wean myself for longer. These chest pains are so frustrating. I have been checked thoroughly. They are nothing sinister. They are to do with my mental health. I get them if I cut down by five or more cigarettes a day. I cut down 12, 11, 6, 6, 5, 5, 4, 6. Three days of chest pain.
