Friday the 13th isn't an unlucky day

Today started out to be a dreadful day. I have a cold, and felt blah. I didn't wake up until 9:30. I had weighed this morning before the toast and once again had a slight gain! Hubby wasn't home, so I made some toast. I was going to have cream cheese on the toast, but it was a bit furry, so I had butter and blackberry jelly. I was still hungry ( maybe not hungry, but I chose to believe I was) and made some more. Not only was I hungry, I was really wanting a cigarette. That is not a good sign. So I walked back to my Sanctuary, and there on my desk was an insurance check that more than covers the $4,000 that we need to do our roof repairs. I wasn't expecting the insurance company to be so generous! Then I logged into Sparks and did my food log for the day. I was able to plan the rest of the day, so the outcome fit well within my daily goals. That was the 2nd ray of sunshine!!
Then my daughter called me to let me know she had spoken with my hubby ( her step father) and he had agreed to help her out with a retainer for a new attorney to get her divorce. She was in a relationship with a dangerous man and has been working for over a year to get it finalized. She is in awe that hubby agreed to help her. I fell in love with him all over again! He was 65 when we married and has never had children. I knew he was kind and funny, but I never expected this. The 3rd ray of sunshine!
Then ( because I really feel crappy and didn't want to exercise today), I opened my email. There was a posting from Freecycle.org from a woman asking for a dinner for 9 people. I called her to confirm it was a valid posting. She said it was for her and her husband and 7 children. So when hubby got back I asked him if he would take her a box of food. So I did a pantry purge. I bought a bulk order of grass feed beef a few months ago and we are unable to eat it, do to dietary/health constraints. I put 6 packages of ground beef in the box, then I went through the canned goods and pulled out the cans of beans that were not low sodium, and the few packages of things I no longer use in our food plan. Boxed Macaroni and Cheese. Large cans of tomatoes, again not low sodium, some Taco seasoning packs, some packages of mashed potatoes, so packages of hash browns and a bag of brown rice, since I had two. Then I pulled 8 fresh organic tomatoes from my Bountiful baskets order. I then went back to the sanctuary and printed the part of our church outreach on Food Baskets, and stapled a message that said a Gift of Love from Bill & Sunny and put that in the box. I felt my spirit lift!! I am not telling you this because I want you to know that I am a generous person. I want to share with you that when you are in a bad place, sometimes stepping out to help someone less fortunate will lift your spirit. Then I realized 2 hours had passed and I wasn't craving a cigarette- There was the 4th ray of sunshine!
I was grateful that not eating processed boxed foods now was 2nd nature for me. I am grateful that I had food to share with others, who needed it way more than we do. I am grateful that I could return something for all the bounty we have received in our life. I still chose not to exercise today. My Spark Coach exercise today brought me to an Article entitled Mind Over Body. I realized there is a difference between going through the motions and actually Living the Program. Also there is something to the prayer : Give us this Day our Daily Bread! That was the 5th ray of sunshine.
As a matter of fact while sitting here in my sanctuary and analyzing the past month and not feeling "Successful", I decided to fine tune my plan. I renamed it Mind over Body ( now where did that come from- LOL)
I will never Exercise Again!! I will Exerplay!! I will measure! I got complacent and got a small case of Portion Distortion. I am making good choices and have been logging in and recording for 71 days. I am Smoke Free and have been for 35 days. I plan to update my vision board this weekend, take pictures and post them on my pictures.
So thanks if you are reading this. I do feel "Successful", not because I have achieved all my goals, but because I am still on the road!

Congratulations. This is all about the quality of the journey and not the destination (happily ever after smoke-free). You have given us a memorable description of a day on the road of quitting. Thank you. I agree - we must just set ourselves a challenge which distracts for us for a bit to avoid the current or next craving.

You are successful because you are still on this hard journey. We all understand and you have been smoke free for 35 days and that is amazing. I am up to day 15 so 35 is in my future and because of people like you I am determined to do it. Thanks for your share.

You know - I don't want to be smoke-free or a non-smoker. Both terms drag us into a past of that habit. When I give up I am going to be a Free and Independant Person.
