Third attempt at quitting.. Absolutely sure that this is the final one

I have been smoking for 10 years. Initially I started with one smoke per day and after a few months I started smoking about 4-5 smokes daily. From the past few years (5 yrs or so) I have been smoking 8-10 ciagrettes daily with a quit period of 11 months or so (without a single drag) two years back and two other attempts which lasted about 3 months and 1.5 months each.
I think You have to cheat your brain and tell yourself that you do not smoke. Whenever your mind tempts you for a smoke, tell your mind that you are a non-smoker. I have realized that my entire routine revolves around smoking. The drive to office involves buying a pack and a smoke. Office breaks are basically smoke breaks. Stess situations trigger the temptation. Lenghty conversations on the phone become smoke breaks. Catching up with friends who are smokers themselves is a big disaster. I suggest that you need to avoid all these situations for a month atleast till your will power becomes stronger and you will not give in to temptation. Also, one thing I have learnt that even if you take one drag some day or one smoke any day, you will return to your old habit. Thats what happened with me in all these three attempts. Exercise, eating healthy and reminding yourself that you are a non-smoker is the myntra I think which should help.

You said it as "one drag some day or one smoke any day, you will return to your old habit". That's what happens to anyone who chooses to just have that one... Do whatever works for you and definitely remind yourself that you have stopped smoking. You will always be a smoker. Honestly, you will never be a non smoker. A non smoker knows nothing about cravings. A past smoker will feel these urges forever. With a bit of self control, however, you will choose to not light up regardless of the situation. You already know what a waste of time, money and effort the cigarette break is... Hang in there and visit all the posts on this site. Power to you...

Yes it is totally about controlling your mind to keep on top of that voice in your head
I had 1 drag after 10 years being smoke free which bought me un done...we will beat this stinkn demon

I know how you feel I have smoked for 10 years. I have managed to give up a few times for a couple of months at a time. The biggest stint is about a year. But everytime I thought I will just have that one cigarette and everything will be fine. How wrong was I. You full back into that trap of smoking full time. I have managed to give up for 17 days so far. I was smoking about 35-40 a day which is well to much. But something is different this time for me. There seems to be something giving me an extra push that I need. I dont know what that is. Maybe because I am getting married in a 2017 or that my partner and I want to start a family after our wedding. But I feel determined. Just get something in your mind to take away the cravings and I am sure you will be fine. If you need anything just write and I'm sure someone or myself will help you as much as we can. Well done for trying again. You will succeed.

I quit for about 4-5 days and now I am back to smoking 3-4 smokes per day. I had gone out of town for a friends wedding and there were some tense situations there.. I was not strong enough to resist the temptation. Feel sorry and bad for myself. Trying to put it a more stronger effort from today..
