Hi everyone,

I'm 12 days without a cigarette and have managed this with the help of champix.

Yesterday was the hardest it's been since my quit and I'm unsure why because I thought it would have been the first few days but maybe the adrenaline allowed me to sail through those initial ones.

I'm not sure why, I felt quite tired today and I think because I felt like this I spent time thinking of that old thought of a 'pick me up'!!

Previously when I was bored or tired I would smoke and I think this thought was in my head! Anyway I didn't smoke, I just found myself thinking of them more than the previous days.

I started to think about the fact I smoked when I was bored or tired and then remembered I also smoked when I was happy, sad, driving, when I wake up, after a meal , in fact every half an hour if I'm honest!!!

I have decided that I should concentrate on realising I have many triggers in my head when I would normally reach out for a cigarette and that I should also remember I am 12 days free of the horrible bloody things that lets face it take over your life!!

Tomorrow is another day and I hope everyone else is still going strong, we are all good people and deserve that day when we don't think of these bloody things and it becomes a distant memory!!

Keep strong everyone!!

Ian

I found the first few days were not too bad because the desire to quit was so strong. You will have times when it is tough but the longer you stay quit, the easier it becomes.

Strive for a target e.g. one month. When you achieve that aim for another e.g. 50 days and then keep on setting targets. When you get to around 100 days you will have days where you don't even think of cigarettes.

I have not been in here for awhile but was surprised to see I am on day 901 without a puff (and over $14000 better off).

If you want to brag then a good time to do that is when you get to one year smoke free.

I am coming back here in 353 days to see you achieve that :)

Ian, well done you! I am day 12 also, and like you with the help of Champix to start me off (though I stopped the tablets early I don't believe I would have got here without them).

It is life-changing, that's for sure. And all for the better and in so many ways I haven't even yet become aware of.

We are nearly at 2 weeks. Isn't that brilliant! :)

Hi Ian, congrats on your accomplishment to date, that is fantastic! Those tough days just kind of pop up when you least expect them, I had a really tough one last weekend and I am 49 days smoke free. Champix definitely helps but you do have to still fight through those urges. You are now a non-smoker! Way to go Ian!

Hi All

Gerry1 WELL DONE - I am 366 days a non-smoker!! I cant wait to celebrate my 2nd year. As tough as it is in the beginning that's how easy it becomes later. I still have the arb thought of - hhhmmm smoke soon to be followed by YUCK NOPE! Just ride the wave of the craving - it will disappear...keep in mind you have come this far why derail all your hard work and effort? I really wish all of you loads of determination and commitment

Mix I am 24 days smoke free and like the others found the first week relatively easy with the champix but was surprised that now after 24 days the thoughts are stronger. Reading your post at 366 days I see you still get that odd thought so I guess it is normal. I think if there had been a cigarette in the house this afternoon I would have been strongly tempted to have a puff. I know it would have been disgusting and I would have spun out but that thought was strong. Like you I will keep strong and remind myself of first the money I am saving and how much I want to stay smoke free.
