I have stopped and started smoking many times.  When I get to a stage that my head is aching and I am constantly coughing and breathing heavily, I find it very easy to stop.  I also find that there are no physical withdrawl symptoms.

My problem is that after a few weeks when my head and throat are no longer sore and I have stopped cpoghing, by brain says to me " you can stop smoking easily, so why not smoke for a while". 

This is what I need to change - a brain change.

I know what you mean, Pebro - I've fallen into that trap many times. This time, using Champix I hope to re-train myself properly. Good luck on your journey - I think the more aware we are of the pitfalls we can prepare to avoid them in the future. You sound like you have a lot of insight so I'm sure you are heading for success, permanently. :)

Maybe put some signs around the house or work saying how crap you feel when you are smoking so no matter when this happens you have a defence. Good luck and stay strong.

I know what you mean Pebro, I have been down that road a few times myself. This time, I just kept telling myself that if I started again, I would just have to go thru the quitting process again because i I knew that ultimately I had to quit! Also just remember that everytime you cough it does a little damage to your lungs and after enough years of coughing that damage is irreversible, so keep up with the battle, you can do this, you know the routine and you know the pitfalls but most importantly you have the right state of mind! All the best!

Dear PEBRO- the Quitline can send you out a quit pack. Included are some stickers. One says 'young lungs need clean air'. Maybe you could put it some where strategically where it will have the best affect.
