When/ why do people fail on Champix?

Hi guys,

I've foolishly been reading other forums r/e Champix and there are a lot of naysayers out there who claim Champix is great for the first while, but the reality of quitting gets difficult after a couple of weeks (ie: the 'miracle drug' aspect kind of wears off).

To anyone who has done the three months or totaly quit successfully - what was the toughest time for you? Week one smoke free? Week two? End of the first month? Third month?

If you failed to quit, when were the danger zones you noticed? What would you do look out for next time?

Thanks guys, I guess I'm so pleased with Champix that I'm worried it may - as many cynics have said - be too good to be true.

PS: I know it's still 70% willpower. Don't want you to think I'm relying 100% on the drugs!

Hey JackGarner, that is an interesting question, ad I am on the Champix too. I am not sure how to answer that as I am at the end of month one. I think there is no miracle, I think they help you, but you do do alot of the work. I fine they help but I still get crqavings and still feel emotional and want to smoke again. I do not know if that changes after the 3 months, I would like to hear more posts on that. But I do think it has been successful for some, I believe it is not due to Champix. It is due to the person believing that they can do it and continue to do it. good luck with you journey .

Hi Guys, I have just finished my 3 months on Champix 10 days ago. I am so proud of myself I have been smoking for about 25 years and this is the only thing that seems to work for me but in saying that it is still hard work and I have strong cravings that I have to fight. I just think of my health, my children and the money I am saving to get me through it. Good luck to you all and lets keep fighting this discusting habbit. Just to let you all know I am 82 days smoke free

I have quit using Champix. I found by day 10 on them, i could only smoke half a cigarette as i felt queasy. I used this time to reflect on my reasons for wanting to quit in the first place (as it is easy to talk yourself out of making drastic changes). My planned quit day was Day 14 however i had one on Day 15 (purely out of habit). I was disappointed with myself and told myself "no more" and spent the rest of the day keeping busy. It was so easy to do, i wish i had done it sooner. Tips that helped me:

1. Don't plan your last cigarette. If you do, you won't enjoy it and you will light up again.

2. Green tea helped (or any tea). Replace your cigarette with this new habit.

3. Chewing gum helps as does sugar free lollies.

4. Don't think about smoking. The more you do, the more your body thinks you want one.

The Champix are strong, but your mind is stronger. If you really want to quit, you will be able to do it or if you have quit, ask yourself to you really want smoking to control your life again.

I'm loving my newfound freedom.
