Journey so far

Posted in Staying quit
schedule 1 Oct 2012

HI

I've tried several times to quit and have always gone back to smoking.

I'm really wanting this time to never go back to smoking.

I'm really enjoying being a non smoker .

I've noticed small differences this time.

The biggest breakthrough has been that it doesn't bother when others smoke around me.

I also am saving up for a pair of new gym shoes and just saw how much I've saved so far.

I know that it won't be easy but I think it will be worth it to became a non smoker.

I'm trying to teach myself that I can became a non smoker and that it is never too late.

I'm turning 42 this year and I want to get healthy.

I recently realised that I will have problems and challenges regardless of whether I smoke or not.

When I was younger I used to smoke when I was in social situations I was very shy  or when i was depressed about something a relationship breakdown or work stress or family stress.

I used to enjoy smoking on my own too and spent alot of time smoking before doing things I knew I needed to get done -mostly I smoked out of boredom too.

I think about all the reasons and i look back now and realise that I'd rather be smoke free.

I wish everyone all the best in quitting.

I will continue on this journey until I succeed.

Go for it Jacqui11. Sounds as though you have thought things through and really made the decision. Stick with it and quit - just quit. I intend to and only wish I had done it at your age instead of 15 years later.

My first week cold turkey was REALLY HARD I WIIL NOT LIE but after that it got much easier and the benefits accrued quickly and noticeably. So stick with it Jacqui11. I plucked up courage to get a chest Xray and got a good report. This was positive reinforcement for me as is this website and Joel Spitzer's WhyQuit.com. Have joined a gym on the money I save and find my muscles get tired before I run out of breath which is a big and happy change. Like you I actually enjoyed 5 out of my 20 smokes per day so I feel I will always miss those 5 but am resolved that the price of the other 20 was too high so day by day I will resist and JUST WON'T SMOKE. Best wishes in your own journey.
