Hi All,well on day 40,n doing crap haha.Im missing smoking and having cravings all the time,I cant stop thinking about the bloody things! I am replacing them with treats,as in chocolate, lollies ect and am gaining so much weight. Not happy Jan! I used to enjoy having a cigi at the end of everything I did, working, shopping, eating, sleeping, stressing, loving, just about anything lol.Now I have to have something at the end of all these things-something to look forward to,n its eating, eating, eating :( Not so good! On a good note,I am now able to go for long long walks with my girls and not wheeze or run out of puff,n that is simply amazing.I have so much time on my hands, now that I dont have to take off every half hr for a smoke. It has good and bad points I am just carrying on about the bad cause Im sooking and stressed and hate the cravings and my mood swing!s I know in the end I will be healthier and wealthier haha so just hope I can deal with the cravings and moodiness(and my girls) and not gain too much weight,n get fit again:)

Hi Joy, 40 days is great. So much will power to get to this point. A lot of people find the 50's or 60's particularly rough, but once you are through that it's really much easier. I'm at day 177 and still think about having a smoke most days but shut it down painlessly very quickly.

I alos turned to food for quite some time to sub for the ciggies and put on weight. But a gym membership and consistent exercise has nipped that in the bud. Weighed up, the most important thing is to give up the smokes. If you put on weight, who cares, you can deal with that later when the nicotine addiction is gone. But, instead of eating junky snacks, try nuts, dried fruit etc.

Anyway, it's great to hear you're doing so well on this quit journey.

Thanks MickeyJ,your comment really helped.U must be very proud of yourself,Im looking forward to making it that far:) I have now changed my eating habbits(almost).I have swapped chocolate for fruit n healthier snacks as u suggested and feel alot better for it.I am saving(what I used to spend on cigis)for a treadmill,so that will be nice.Rewarding myself is fun:) Thanks heaps for your support and great suggestions, and well done to you:)

Hi Joys Quitting, I've been there! I have put on about 6 kilos since I quit nearly 5 months ago -- not happy about it, but it's better than inhaling all that poison! Just think of how great it is that you are freeing your mind (and body) from an insane slavery to a rotten little rolled up piece of paper with chemical crap inside it!! Think also of how your poor lungs are finally clearing themselves up -- they deserve to be looked after and you are now doing the right thing by your body. I'm very very slowly starting to get control over my eating binges/comfort eating. It's a struggle but I think I am over the worst and can start losing the first kilo or two... But the best thing is that my terrible guilt has gone and my conscience is at last clear. I know I have made a truly good decision in quitting and the same goes for you! We're all in this together!

I have found this thread helpful because the contributors admit to continued thoughts about smoking. This is my experience too. So you guys help me more than the lucky ones who claim they never look back. I do! I LOVED smoking my pack of camels every day for the first 35 years. The fun diminished over the last 5 years, but I still loved the first ones every morning. I really want to quit but find it hard, so your stories encourage me to keep at it and deal with my cravings. After all, they are annoying but manageable, and they won't kill me. Thanks for sharing.
