Day 25 and struggling

Posted in Staying quit
schedule 14 Jul 2012

I quit 25 days ago. Started on Champix 12 days before that but stopped taking them about 5 days after my quit day.

Overall I have been pretty good up until today. Although I have gained 2-3 kg;s which is worrying to me. So about a week ago I decided to give up chocolate and lollies as well.

Today had a shocking shift at work. I work in a paediatric ED. Work 12 hour shifts. Arrived home with an incredible craving to smoke. My jaw hurts because of the longing. I have devoured several bars of chocolate and even a couple of glasses of wine to try and stop the craving but I am still climbing the walls. The only thing stopping me from lighting up is the thought of going all the way back to Day One, and the thought of waking up in the morning and realising that I gave in. ( Most nights I dream that I have smoked and wake with a feeling of absolute relief that it was just a dream)

Have just discovered this site and am hoping reading these stories will help me be strong

Overall I did not have many side effects to the Champix. I suspected they were increasing my appetite, however I was wrong. I have continued to gain weight since stopping them. 3 kg in 4 weeks!

Today will be day 28. For some reason that is significant to me. I feel sure that once I make it through today I will be smoke free for life.

Thanks for your comment though

As for the Nicabate. Very tempting, as I was thinking maybe if I got a nicotine hit from somewhere else I wouldn't feel so hungry, but then I think it is a slippery slope.

My goal this week is to concentrate on diet and exercise

I had some very ordinary experiences with the Champix, or should I more correctly say the side effects. However, it is now nearly a year since my last smoke and I am certain the Champix were a big, big help.

In fact when I finished the course I went back to the GP to get some 'spares'. I started taking one every day that I had a craving. That would take the cravings away for four or five days. Anyway it was money well spent, haven't taken a Champix for months. And not had a smoke. Life is good.

Thanks for your comments. Am now Day 42. The weight gain has settled and infact am just turning the corner and starting to lose a few hundred grams thanks mainly to Pepsi Max and Strawberry flavoured Extra chewing gum. Rarely even think about smoking although I feel certain that just a single drag would start me off again. Destroyed my emergency pack that I was keeping at home just in case.
