The dreary weather is bringing my spirits down - but I am staying strong and distracting myself with a good book.

So funny you should say that about the weather ⛈️ --

I was going to say that colder weather with rain - while I'm under shelter just soaking (not literally) up the atmosphere like on my deck under the collapsing roof...

this is one of my biggest triggers. It's a situation based trigger I suppose.

I even grit my teeth sometimes in frustration as I want the smoke but can't have it. thinking if I only didn't have those kids to be healthy for, I'd be enjoying the cold serenity and the sound of the rain on the plants with maybe just one smoke to accompany me.

On the flip side, I have never been able to tolerate smoking in the sunlight --

and I can't understand people sitting on the beach baking in the full sun... smoking as well!

Some of my fondest memories involve smoking at night just chilling with friends when it's too rainy to do much else. I have a lot to get over to just leave all those memories behind too. Stings.

The text limit on these responses is kind of forcing me to make lots of comments to convey my rambling story.

You know what I don't miss? Waking up with hair that seriously stinks after smoking the night before. And let's combine - sweat + smoke = absolutley horrendous. No more gross smoky pillow either.

But I used to like finding interesting cigarettes from smaller manufacturers and now I think the warings and packet changes have positioned those smaller players out. Like they can't do a special box just for here.

I guess what my most major point is, is that - maybe- the desire for things doesn't always go away.

You know you shouldn't smoke.

So you don't. Or you try to quit.

But you still want one sometimes.

And that's ok to acknowledge you want to have a smoke.

Giving up all desires is Zen master stuff, isn't it? We're just people.

I don't know, but perhaps not beating yourself up for slight slip-ups is a good step in the right direction.

So on your quit journey, be kind to yourself and listen to your body and breathe. It's ok to want a smoke. Don't feel bad if it takes some time for that craving to vanish. Strong cravings might take a couple of weeks or maybe months to settle.

Best of Luck!

Hey Charbes, I love reading your comments. Thanks for sharing your story! Yes I have been thinking about quitting for a while now but situations drive me to pick up a smoke.. I know my triggers but it takes a lot to build that willpower and not have any slip ups.
