27 days in and I have a health scare

Going cold turkey, last attempt lasted a year.
I’m here for a support network - ex smokers get it!
11 year smoker - started during first deployment with the Army.
Health scare - Couldn’t breath the morning after a 5km run, 2 days coughing up phlegm, coughed up a little blood also. Chest X-ray and stethoscope showed all clear, just waiting For blood test results. I’ll be asking for a Spriometry test and endoscopy also.
I’m newly married and trying to start a family, this is my motivation!

Welcome Dave Brown, some of us have been where you are at the present time, and it is not a good feeling to be so unfit. I am glad you are taking care of yourself this time and it is a warning loud and clear for you to begin a serious look at your lifestyle, and what a better reason than to begin your marriage with actions that mirror your desire.
You will receive a lot of support here on your way forward so do not be afraid to post any more information or any points that are worrying you. Keep well and NOPE (not one puff ever) especially for relapsed non smokers.

Hi softly40, thanks for your kind words. After three days of feeling like crap I’m feeling a lot better - next to no coughing and phlegm and my chest feels pretty clear. This is twice in the last three months this has happened and the doctors weren’t going to do much more than an ECG and throw the stethoscope over my chest and back. It was only at my insistence that I got a chest X-ray. Having been a peacekeeper in East Timor and fought in Iraq and Afghanistan a few times, nothing is more scarier than looking in the mirror after coughing up blood and phlegm to ask yourself is this it, have I given myself something that’s irreversible?! As you put it NOPE. 28 days today, never looking back.
Cheers
Dave

Welcome on board the smoke free train Dave Brown. You are in great company here. Our bodies certainly are machines that were not built for smoking. Never give up trying to quit stay close to this community they have helped pull me through quite a few times. Read through all the stories and comments and leave comments on others stories I find helping others helps me remain a non smoker. There is a mantra that many of us have adopted it's NOPE not one puff ever. I haven't done quitting perfectly unfortunately I have had a few slip ups and set backs however doing all the above plus some I am now a nonsmoker. All the best to you Dave Brown 😊
