Mental Health
I am on my 23rd day of no cigarettes. The reason i quit was completely based on mental health. With every cigarette i smoked i felt disgusted at myself and was convinced that that exact cigarette I was smoking would give me cancer or a heart attack. It got to the point where this dread became so common with every cigarette, that I was sliding into a depressive state. Quitting has completely turned this around for me.

Great news AlbanianSm at last you have taken the plunge so to speak, we all have are reasons for giving up and this forum will help you in keeping a positive mindset as possible. Its just the beginning for you and I don't want to underestimate your suffering but we all have tended to feel a good amount of shame and disgust, possibly not to the extent that you have endured. You have jumped that hurdle and everyone here will help you with some knowledge and our own experiences. Well done and keep in touch

I am sorry to hear that you suffered such depression and dread, but of course so happy that you have come to the right decision and changed your life for the better. May I ask if you use an NRT . I would also be curious to know if you have any cravings having such negative thoughts towards the cigarette.
I am of the belief that you will not crave what you do not desire. I didn't have cravings after the nicotine was out of my system in 72 hours. That is why I am so adamant about the positive mindset of embracing this journey rather than lamenting it. Knowing the truth about cigarettes, nicotine and yourself are all a part of the retraining of the mind.
I am glad you are here safe with us AlbanianSmoke and am delighted that you shared your unique story with us. Please answer the questions if you would please. We all have different quits of course, but i am really interested to know how you are affected by cravings.
Hi @Happines,
I quit completely cold turkey. I am only 22 years old and have been smoking for about 3 years so perhaps that made it easier for me. After 23 days of no cigarettes I've completely stopped craving them but I do have a much much bigger appetite now haha.
I am a bit more prone to anxiety in general as a person so cigarettes were not helping, but the good thing is that this anxiety has now convinced my brain that cigarettes are an enemy, so there's a silver lining :)

Thank you so much for your answer. It certainly makes sense that you would have no craving after 23 days when the nicotine receptors have shut down after the last consumption of nicotine. An addiction is an addiction and apparently how long and how many cigarettes is not to be of consequence. I get that when it comes to the nicotine, but 30 years of a habit is much more ingrained than a 3 year period of use. Again, thank you for the answers and giving us pause for thought.
I am glad that you found your silver lining after dismal times. May be all find our clear skies and sunshine in the near future.
