A healthier happy me

Posted in Reasons to quit
schedule 18 Feb 2018

I started smoking when I was 16yrs old. I am now 50 & I am starting to realise that the older I'm getting, the more at risk I am of horrid illnesses. To say that I've come this far without any overall health problems is possibly nothing but sheer luck! I am deciding to quit these wicked cigarettes that have held such a strong grasp on me for the last 34yrs. My quit date is the 19.2.18 as I do admit that I have a few to go & I'm done. For me it's also about the money as I have temporarily been out of work & they are no longer affordable.(possibly a blessing in disguise). What also encouraged my decision was I sat down with my calculator & calculated how much I will save by not smoking & it was very encouraging. I wish everybody on this site the best of luck in defeating this filthy habit as it CAN be done.

Ive got much the same story as you , started when 16 , am now 50 . Also I have never had a health issue , just pure luck . I gave up 6th feb , so I´m a newbie too . The first 2 days were the strong pang days , now I see a pang as a sign that im on the road to recovery and the nicotine is trying its best to get me back on it ( ok a bit melo dramatic lol ) Anyway good luck for your start date !

Morning everyone well this is it. The 19.2.18 the day I become smoke free for good. Please keep the positive comments coming as I know we are all on here for the same reasons & the more encouragement I get the more determined I will be to keep away from those evil cigarettes.

Good luck for today, if you prepare for a real shi**y time, then you will be surprised that its not so bad , the first 2 days are the worse but nothing to worry about , just be determined that you are a non smoker now , and when the " pangs " come remember it is the nicotine addiction trying to get you back on them , its like a little monster , every pang you survive is a victory and a nail in the coffin for the nicotine monster :)

Hi annajohn. Thanks 4 the link about capes. I looked into those the other day & I can't believe how expensive it can be but hey it's still a lot cheaper than smoking & healthier. ( I guess). Good luck.

Hi there red67. I'm currently doin the disposable ecig but this 1 doesn't have nicotine in it. All it does is help with the phychological side of things. You know, just helps with the 'feeling' of having a smoke in your hands. Of course nothing like the real thing but if it helps well then it's worth it. Whenever I feel a craving coming on I just pop some standard chewing gum in my mouth & that helps abit 2. So I'm givin it a good go. Although it was many years ago, I did manage 2 give them away 4 a couple of months & was doin great until I had an argument with my supervisor at work & that stuffed everything. Some people see that as just an excuse but 4 me it was a big trigger so now I know what 2 try & avoid. Thanks 4 all your tips. They r greatly appreciated.

Hi there, I am 50 and smoked since I was 17. It was taking its toll on my health. My partner is away who smokes so thought perfect opportunity to stop whilst he is away for two weeks. Good luck with your journey.
