Hi all, we seasoned ex smokers(quitters) may sometime or the other say to ourselves"after all the time we spent smoking.....is it worthed to stop?" Well i myself smoked for 50 yrs as did older folks on this site such as Lia, Dobbin and Red etc. I thought hard and discussed this issue with professional people and i came to the conclusion of the following. (1) At my age i can continue to smoke and end up with an oxygen bottle to assist me in my last days......how would you enjoy smoking then? OR (2) Continue to stay quit, ignore the odd craven, enjoy what life you have left in an orderly manner and also be glad to watch your grand kids grow up. There is no point for a little pleasure of smoking robbing you of fine time and only to put you in a state of miserable remainder. I know what option i chose and all young people out there....remember one day you also will be old. Hope these lines help. Cheers.

Food for thought in your words, Johnnie,

Everything we do in life comes down to choices.

I hope to go into my dotage years (I'm working on it) (lol)😊 as a Non Smoker,

50 years ago i was 10 foot tall and rust proof, the very oldies around me were huffing n puffing and coughing, telling me that smoking was no good for you, they were the examples of why i should of never have started, did i take heed of their wise words, NO.

I had to live my life, cause i knew better, ..now its my turn to say some wise words to the younger newbie smokers, but like me at the age....my ears were painted on.

The younger ones are more exposed to adverts and info regarding the No Smoking campaign, but they have to live their lives,

Hi Johnnie. For me 660 days and nearly $14000 in the overs tray and not the ash tray. No more signs of emphysema. Having a sense of smell is amazing. Starting to feel bullet proof...

Hi John 100. Very glad you were able to read just one of my stories which i have placed on this site. Yes mate your journey will be tough no two ways about it. What you need to remember is the damage that smokes cause whether you have smoked for 2yrs or 20yrs. You will go through a lot of body changes and moodsespecially for the first 90 days then from then on it will be smooth sailing with just the odd storm now and then. BUT remember do not give in or all your torture and hard work will become undone. Buy 4mg nicabate lozenges and break into quarters as i started. You will get relief and cravings will minimise as you progress. Ibeen quit 2yrs and 3mths now and honestly the urges disappeared plus all the money you save especially if you live in NSW. I visit the site from time to time to offer support for newbies like you and to make contact with my old class quitters. So mate hang in there and when your goal is achieved you will SEE how worthed and wonderful it has become. Cheers.

Hi Johnnie, just like to say thanks for your support. Just past the 100 day mark and I credit that in part to yourself and others on this site. Still think about smoking at times, however the cravings are not strong enough to undo 100 days of struggle.
