ILL EFFECTS OF NICOTINE AND DRIVERS TO QUIT

Hello all

through this post i want to thank the wonderful people and country of australia which has helped me in quitting cigarettes. i visited Sydney and paramatta in the month of oct-nov 2016 and the visit was a key in quitting smoking. I have been a smoker from last 25 yrs and although i smoke around 05 cigarettes per day on average but nonetheless this habit i considered always dangerous. I am a doctor,43 yr old and posted in casualty of a hospital in india and over 20 yrs of my experiance i have seen that nicotine in any form is very dangerous and i see the grave consequences of chronic smoking daily. i can quote volumes of text but one simple thing i want to emphasize is that chronic nicotine consumption causes our arteries to shrink and i think the effect is more on the medium and small calibre arteries causing myocardial infarction, strokes , peripheral loss of blood circulation and lot of other grave things. The local ill effects of nicotine(along with betel nut) chewing are much deadlier and it is the single most cause of oral cancer in my country india.

Tremendous guilt feel after every smoke was there as i have a younger 06 yr old daughter and i wondered everytime if i would be healthy when she grows up/marries. i was also scared many times but leaving nicotine is not that easy. it has an excellent seeking behavior. we may forget so many things but our brain automatically reminds to light up after lunch / dinner or the usual scheduled time. it never forgets that.

i came to australia and decided that i will not purchase cigarettes here and spend my money on seeing this beautiful country(in spring) instead. i visited many gardens but did not smoke. i joined icanquit and have not smoked since then. thanks australia.

Hi drmanoj02, On the 30th of May 2015, I decided to call my craving Margaret Thatcher. Oh, how many times have I told this story. You see, if the craving was mine, I would cave in. If however "someone" else is trying to tempt me, then saying NO is easy. No one tells me what to do... It has worked for over 560 something days. Mind you, I know there is a very fine line to just having one and then another, etc... Once a smoker, always a smoker. The difference is that one chooses not to smoke.
