To early to die

I looked after my dad for 5 years on life support. He was a smoker it affected his lungs and heart but when he passed I smoked a lot heavier and have had many trips to hospital for breathing problems and heart and stroke I gave up once for 2 months then I started again this time I mean to quit for good as my dad is looking down on me as saying there's no room for me to join him yet. I AM GOING TO QUIT

Welcome shazza1966, sorry to hear about your dad, if your mind is in the right place you will succeed, one day at a time and in no time you will be a non smoker

it really does prove fear is not in its self enough to beat addiction, more like a moment of clarity or of the lies we have tell ourselves to keep justifying smoking , rational thought would suggest smoking is not such a good idea, but put simply we believe our own bullsh$t , we have to or we couldn't keep smoking.
having said all that I crapped on myself for 30 years and its total insanity the reasons I gave myself to keep smoking.
so really stopping smoking is coming to a place of sanity , because knowing what we know about smoking and to keep doing it is insane.
so I have to laugh at the ad's they run using fear to try make people stop never will work and still that's the best they can come up with.
I sure understand the place you are in shazza1966 coming to realize we are insane isn't an easy thing to accept.
but its the truth and truth is the road we need to walk down in regards to smoking , sure we all have other truths we need to see but that's a whole other story.
I sure cant make you stop know one can but we can be here and support your journey :)
keep sharing and they day will come when we are sick and tired of being sick and tired and do something about it.
someone will always be here for you and me to offer a bit of support, say keep going well done etc.. and we all need that from time to time!!

Good for you Shazza1966 and great story IC, agree 100%. I'm day 76, really thought it was longer, seems a lifetime ago that I smoked. First day off the Champix, hoping that has been the cause of some side affects! I think I'm one of the lucky ones, even tho its still early days, going back on the ciggies is simply not an option, see earlier posts re heart attack 3 and a half months ago, and Ive not had any really bad " I need a cigarette moments, Yet". I definitely struggle with 'routine', especially first thing in the AM, used to always have coffee, ciggies, sit outside and enjoy the peace and quiet, and watch sometimes an hour go by! Now I set the alarm later but after years of being up by 5am its hard, I have so much more time. I will eventually find ways to fill those long coffee and ciggie breaks. I have been doing a lot more cooking and baking for the family and thats helped. Hang in there because I can start to feel a difference now w my shortness of breath and things do taste a bit different now. I think its really celebrating these small things thats helping me, my clothes don't smell, I don't smell, can taste salt, sugar etc, have cut out sugar in my coffee and only have 2 or 3 a day. Like I said…little things!!

well done lynnieh, yes so much more time now :) but I can still have a brake and a drink of water etc and enjoy the view etc.. just takes some time to see how smoke free works :)
