Posted in Reasons to quit
schedule 26 Dec 2014

Hello Everyone,

Im so selfconcious of my smoking habit, Im the only one in my work place who smokes and i can smell it on my clothes. Im on a packet a day and will go to different shops because i dont want to be a regular customer buying the same ol thing at twenty five bucks a packet !!!     Does this sound familiar to anyone else ???

So putting the quilt and embarrasment to the foremost of my mind  I shall QUIT and I would love to hear from anyone who on the same mission as myself

Cheers

Hi trisha, you did make me smile as I wouldn't go to the same shop two days running. Tomorrow will be day 21 smoke free which after 30 years plus of smoking is quite an achievement for me. Each day is getting easier and to not think of smoking when I get up in the morning is really strange. I did change my routine and stopped having coffees on the patio as this was my biggest trigger, although having said that 3 weeks down the line I can now sit out there but have gone off of coffee which is a result ! I'm not getting too confident as it is early days and I am not out of the woods yet but feeling motivated and positive. Good luck and Happy new year to you.

Hi trisha, I am with you on this! It's one of the main reasons I am quitting! I too have felt ashamed, fed up of smelling like an ashtray and embarrassed to be seen smoking as well as buying them.

I want to be free of this evil habit and I am more determined than ever. I have started champix today and will be attending a regular session with the nurse to track progress on a fortnightly basis.

I just keep thinking of the money I will save, and not just on the cigs, but also the other stuff like mints, perfumes, air freshners etc that I buy on a regular basis to mask the smell!

Giving up can only be a good thing.

Happy New Year!

Hi Trisha, I have an array of different reasons for quitting including always being embarrassed about buying smokes and sneaking out somewhere to have a puff, hoping not to be seen. Shocking really! I'm quitting for 2015 and joined a couple of forums (including this one) for support. I've had enough! I wish you success in your quit....LETS QUIT FOR GOOD WE CAN DO THIS!!

Was a smoker for 30 years, I am 30 days no smoking, I was so afraid of giving up. Firstly I enjoyed it. Secondly it was a part of my life. If I was happy I would smoke, uncomfortable, I would smoke, wake up in the morning, I would smoke. Still struggling a bit every morning but every night that I see what u save and my health. Gives me the strongest feeling for the next day to stay a NON smoker. Good luck you will feel so much better for it

Hi there and many thanks for the above four posts. Its great to read and take heart in the fact that there is support ect for us. It has been easier that I thought as I am on holidays and can please myself and change the triggers and routines that make me light up a ciggies. Im back at work on Monday and am a bit anxious as I smoked on my breaks and how im going to cope with the cravings.

Hopefully this is just a case of "fear of the unknown" and Ill be able to sit in a cupboard and deep breath lol

If anyone has tips for me Id appreciate it thanks again and Happy New year

Hi again Keeping a sense of humor helps a lot, Ive just taken my jack Russel to the Dog park were the Ciggies were being lit up OMG I said to myself and so taking the bull by the horns I went over when they called After a few minutes I was in need of one Real bad! so I picked up the dog in inhaled on her neck while disguising it as cuddles and kisses. You may laugh but it worked!!! and the other dog owners still have no idea
