Mums' Smokin' NOT!

Being a full-time Mum of 4 can be busy enough without having to deal with the everyday commotions in life. I've just realized that all my ME time that I never seem to have is spent Smoking. I recently undertook a business opportunity and prior to this business my life consisted of Coffee, facebook, smoke, coffee, facebook, smoke, a bit of cleaning, tell my children of for being naughty, phone, coffee, smoke, smoke, facebook, smoke, drive, smoke, cook and clean, smoke, eat, smoke, and the list goes on. Notice how many times I ate in this pattern? You'd have thought I would be slim but I actually put on more weight from all the sitting on my butt. Did I mention anything nice about my children? NO, it's all smoke and ME ME ME. Disgusting and typically selfish now that i've read it-i'm rather embarrassed by it all. BUT I came here to quit for good. I have already started to make a change in my lifestyle including my diet, I now play with my children and have so much fun! Facebook and computer time is limited- my housework is so much easier now that I am paying attention to everything that goes on around me. The only thing i'm struggling with is- KICKING THE SMOKING HABIT. Right now, i'm thinking "I need a smoke" but i'm stuffing my mouth with Chocolate Sultanas, my kids are fighting in the background, "Gosh, I really need a smoke now" my lungs are sore from the amount of ciggies i've had today- 11 in 12hours! Disgusting! I always have to freshen myself up when dealing with clients and hide away around the corner for a quick puff- but it all just makes me feel worse! Good grief I need to take a break from here cause my body and heads screaming out "I want a smoke!" I'll be back soon after I settle my nerves and find something else to eat. Ciao for now!

HI Just2breathe
You've got a very busy routine... No wonder why you are stressed. Have you thought about quitting with the help of meds? Like champix? Gums?...

Hi just 2breathe, From your post I can see that you are aware of how smoking is effecting your life... that's progress. There are many methods to quit the smoking. I am using champix it is brilliant, and I am two days smoke free which I cannot believe. Good luck and stay strong ..

Hi HR and converse, thank you both and I will try the Champix. I asked my doctor not once, not twice but three times for support and advice to quit smoking and his answers were always- if you really want to quit then you would just give it up. You can buy the patches or gum from the pharmacy, bit disheartening since there a brochures in the waiting room saying 'ask your doctor for advice now to quit smoking'. This is my third attempt at quitting- I come from a family of smokers and once the conversations start flowing I just pick up a ciggy and start puffing away again. I seriously have no WILLPOWER, but I am determined to keep chipping away at wiping this filthy habit out of my system. So easy to start but so hard to quit. Thank you's for your support :)

Oh and converse, I take my hat off to you- two days is a HUGE step! well done xx

Hi just2 breathe, wow you are definitely very busy. I can't believe that was the comment from your doctor, discusting. I have tried to quit many times without success and am currently on day 6 and really confident that this is it. I am using patches and find them great, when I do feel like a smoke I know it's just my head and do something to keep my mind off it. I too am not good with willpower but am going to stay strong. Keep chatting with others and continue to reinforce to yourself your reasons for wanting to quit!! Good luck.

Hi Just2breathe,
Well done for making the first step into becoming a non smoker!!! By the sounds of it you have a very hectic lifestyle and your doctor is obviously a non smoker! I think you would benefit from speaking to another GP in regards to quitting and going onto Champix - it is designed to help combat the cravings and with your busy lifestyle i think you WILL DO BRILLIANTLY as your too busy to smoke if that makes sense :)Wishing you all the best :)

Hello there Just2breathe,
Sounds like your days are pretty hectic, makes me tired just reading your post..lol
I guess the first step for you is making sure that you have support and that your feeling in control.
That can be hard when you've got others to put before yourself as in your kids.
Maybe go back to your Dr and demand Champix if thats what you believe is going to help you give up smoking. After all, Your health and well being is what should be very important to him as well as yourself..
Well good luck and all the best xoxo
If your doctor won't support you, get another one. I went to my doctor to give up and he knew I was ready to quit....I guess they know by your reactions when you go see them. Anyway, I went in and he gave me a sript for patches for 3 months. Yes I know you can get them without a script but I wanted the script to make it stick in my mind that it was nwo or never. 87 days down now and I am using a half patch every now and again. I am still to get my third month script which will be the last but as I have not been using a full patch all the time I have a while to go to get my last script filled.
Whatever means you use make it work for you.

Just 2 breathe - Just remember why you chose that name. I am only on day 1 but I too like solo cleared out my last pack. I actually chopped my last cig up with my partner. Then through out the ash trays and any empty packs. Hang in there
