Ready for 2nd attempt

Posted in Reasons to quit
schedule 4 Dec 2012

Hi everyone, I'm back after 12 months..I gave up for 3 months after constant pressure from my family to do so and I wasn't ready but I gave it a go.So tomorrow is my quit day, I have joined the gym to help with anger and frustration and I just asked my 3 children to write mea letter saying why they wanted me to stop.It was very disturbing and confronting what they said but seeing it from their point of view, they are 12,10 and 8 and terrified of losing their mum to cancer. So here I go this time it's my choice and I'm confident I can do it.. Wish me luck :)

Good on your kids for wanting a smoke free mum and being brave enough to write it down! I'd love to know some of the things they told you! Their ideas should be on ciggie packs instead of those medical pics.

Good on you for quittting and I think the gym is a great idea- I myself probably need to start going to the gym also- to get the frustration out.

Your kids sound like a good motivator for you too. Keep strong! You can do it

Thanks guys, my 8 year old drew a picture of me, a packet of longbeach and a lighter and said in his letter he thinks I would have more fun playing with them then sitting outside having a smoke. My 10 year old had point form as to why I should stop, which was : I don't want you to die, he doesn't want to die from passive smoking and thirdly he wouldn't have a mum., and my 12 yo wrote a very heartfelt letter about how he is worried, how our family would be destroyed and how is worried his younger brothers would go off the rails and ruin their live as they wouldn't have a mother.. Pretty powerful stuff actually and I feel really positive about stopping..

well im happy to say today was actually really good..i have decided to include a diet along with the cold turkey of smokes and i was so focused on doing both of these things that i can honestly say i didnt have cravings. I had thoughts of oh i will go have a ciggie then remember im not smoking and the thought went away..Makes such a difference when you really want to quit.Im feeling super positive and tomorro im going to spend $100.00 bucks on myself to remind me of how much money im going to save. Also for anyone struggling and have kids that hate it, get them to put in writing why they want you to stop..best thing my kids could have done and i read the letters often throughout the day as my incentive to pull through this time

Hi kazzabella - interested to hear how you are going? My Mum was a smoker - she gave up for 10 years, but was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in 2006 and died within 15 weeks of diagnosis. It was a good enough incentive for me to give up smoking and I lasted for 4 years, but took it back up 2 years ago and am finding it really hard this time. Today is day 2! ope you pent some money on yourself as a reward!
