Well I'm back to give an update and insights to the last few days.

Thank you for the comments that you nice people posted.

I'm still an official non smoker {I can call myself that now lol},and it a great feeling. I still miss smoking but I'm not sure what I miss, I think its the addiction trying to get me to smoke again.

Its nice waking up in the morning and not having to go outside to have a cigarette coughing my guts up in the process.

Another amazing things have happened, I can taste things better, I can taste the roast of the coffee beans, I can taste red wine better and the gin i drink is devine now {Gordons, of course!}.

I feel good about myself, I tell everyone that will listen and even some that don't listen, that i'm a non smoker now, they may think i'm a little crazy but I don't really care because this isn't about them, it's about ME ME ME!!!!I'm not doing it for anyone else but me and I do not want to fail.

On Friday afternoon I went to the pre-admission appointment prior to my admission next Friday, it went well. You have to have a chat with the dietitian, the anaesthetist, another nurse regarding the stoma bag and the Pharmacist

The doctor had a look at the scans of my lungs and told me that they were OK {that's a blessing} and the emphysema was mild, and as long as I dont start smoking again it should be fine. Emphysema never goes away, you have to learn to live with it, just don't let it get out of hand or you will be having assisted breathing apparatus { tubes up your nose and pushing around a tank of oxygen} Another good reason to give up.

I didn't know how putrid my car smelled, luckily I never smoked in the house as the rest of the family do not smoke.

Early this week I was living minute to minute without a cigarette but now it's longer, sometimes but not often enough, maybe an hour so Im feeling good about it nor.

Well people, I've written enough and most people will have given up reading these ramblings of an old guy but to anyone who has read this to the end I hope that it helps someone.

If I help just one person to stop then its been all worth it.

Until the next time.

That is what I feel about writing too David, ...If it helps just one person it is worth it. We are in it together, and knowing that we are not alone can make the difference. Many can relate to your feelings, and they survived and won. You will too.

It is amazing how quickly we smell and taste better, lower our blood pressure and breathe so much easier and stop the diseases in their tracks once quitting smoking. All Damage can't be reversed of course but is hastened with smoking for sure. All the best of you on Friday. Keep up with the program and the positive thoughts. Let us know how you are doing when you are up to it.

schedule 1 Nov 2020

Ah! well done David, you are never too old or too young to learn new things, keep on writing, and keep on taking really deep breaths outside for a while, you will get to enjoy this feeling too, and it quells anxiety. You will be able to buy many more luxury's soon from the money you have saved. Give yourself a reward to help you on your way, practice NOPE (not one puff ever) every day. Best of luck for Friday, and come back again.

schedule 1 Nov 2020

We are all on the same journey David - you will do this and we can support each other.. Actually after I got past 5 days with no nicotine, my cravings went down dramatically - hopefully things go fine for you
