Making progress

I've managed to greatly reduce my cigarettes using Alan Carr's book. A lot of what he says helps yet I struggle to get through the nicotine withdrawals, most I've made it to is a day without a cigarette. I know I have to go through the withdrawals to be finally free yet they become so severe after a day. At least I'm only smoking about 4 a day when I finally do break. Down from thirty. Any help to get past a day would be much appreciated

If you have read Allen Carr then you will also know that you can only cut back deliberately so far and then you are counting the minutes and seconds til you can "reward" yourself for your abstaining. It is not abstaining that we are here to do. Quitting comes with a desire to quit, not a contest in how long we can go between. You are a non-smoking once the need to smoke is overtaken by the desire not to. To be free of it. Desire that as your goal. See that others are succeeding and that you can also.

Your other medications may not let Champix be as effective as it might be for most people. Make sure your gp is onboard for this reason. The nicotine addiction is only on aspect of quitting smoking. It has become an engraved lifestyle and we feel a void or lost without it. Finding healthier ways to fill those voids or cravings (which are largely just thoughts) makes them past easier. Do not think of it as what you are missing but how you are winning right now and how in the near future you will have control of your life back.

Red and others gave you great advice in your last post. Nicotine is 93% out of your body after an eight hour sleep.... not really much difference if you smoked 100 or 10 a day. 72 hours and the nicotine addiction can be pretty much put to bed. The psychological part is being able to accept life as a non=smoker. While we know we are better off not to smoke, we want our cake and eat it to. Face it , you can't.

Make your decision also your 'desire'. This war really is won in the mind. My quit was easy and after 3 days of cutting back and learning I quit cold turkey rather than cutting back until a quit date. Cutting back was the torture.

My desire to quit far outweighs my desire to smoke. I am not giving up smoking, I am becoming free of smoking, the nicotine withdrawal is how I crack, you say most of it is out in day and that's generally when I crack, telling you and me it's the withdrawals rather than being mental

If my desire to smoke was stronger than my desire not to I wouldn't be continuously trying to kick those last few smokes, I have more to gain by quiting, it's just kicking the last of the withdrawals

schedule 21 Jul 2020

I just beat up my mattress and it got rid of a lot of the agitation from withdrawals, I feel relaxed now

Keep on quitting! Read and learn. Find understanding and knowledge. Read Allan Carr .......We can quit smoking. Find the correct way of thinking.

Thanks its been seven days now since a smoke I've cheated and used a few losenges a day that are low mg, it's been hard, but my desire to smoke has gone, it's just the withdrawals from nicotine that I have been struggling with, though I think if I hadn't used those lozenges, I would of picked up a cigarette, the other thing you gotta realise is the nicotine may leave the system quickly though the withdrawals don't, I've gone down from a 30 to 40 smoker a day down to about 5 lozenges in a space of a week, so there is going to be some huge withdrawals. The nicotine I'm taking is not much at all it's just saved me from having a cigarette
