Amazing but not how you think

It’s still shocking that I quit cigarettes 1st try. I’m 33 and smoked since 13! 20 years of fags and I gave up 1st time with champix which in my view is a wonder drug. I do t know why there are nicotine replacement ads on TV, when this drug actually makes you not want to smoke. Having said that, I’m struggling with my emotions. I’m so upset, angry and sad as well as happyish and I have no idea why. Maybe is the lack of Dopamine due to my not a puff rule. Either way I’m so happy and excited about being a non smoker. The temptations aren’t that bad, just replace it with chocolate or mints. If you get fat like me right now, you can lose the weight when you are over months smoke free. It’s astonishing what is happening to my chest over the past few days (days 16-18). I’m coughing up black, green strands of what looks like streaks of ink in my spuctum. I feel very coughy and coldy but clear as well it’s so weird. Smells really picked up. So far I’m not on top of the world but I can breathe and I have saved over £200 in just 18 days.

Yes, as Red67 says, quit in your mind. The drug as wonderful as it is can only make you not desire it while taking it. Learn to desire being a non-smoker more than ever wanting to start that vile habit again. Remember the reasons why you quit, appreciate the beneficial changes since quitting and dread the thought of having to do Day 1 again. Read, learn, and check in with us from time to time to aid others in their quits as well as your own. One good turn deserves another.

Even the nrts and wonder drugs tell you to get councelling for the best results. That's us!

I read somewhere that quitting smoking was like losing 80 lbs in term of health benefits. A bit of weight gain should not be an excuse for anyone not to quit smoking.

Stay strong Paul, you are doing greeeeaaaat!
