I have had more quit dates than I have bought cigarettes. Quitting isn't easy, but it is worth it. My main strategy is using the "day at a time" principle. I only have to get through today, I know from talking to friends that it will get better. I let go of any thoughts about having to quit for the rest of my life. Ultimately I will be doing that, but I will be doing it one day at a time, one hour at a time, one minute at a time. Whatever it takes! It is worth it, I am worth it. I'll be motivated by the money I'll be saving, the health that will be improving, the improved relationships with significant others who do not smoke. The benefits out-weigh the costs by a mile! I want to make this the last time I have to go through this. I know I can do it!

Thanks Robn, it makes a difference when other people offer support the way you have. I really appreciate you taking the time to do just that, thanks a lot,

Whether you have quit smoking or regrouping I hope you will stay close to iCanQuit. I do believe that it makes the journey easier in that you don't feel that you are doing it alone , you feel more accountable , knowledge is power and keeping positive thoughts is essential. Nrt's advise that their products work better with counselling. We hope our ideas and advice can help you through the rough spots and see you through to success.

Between reading stories here, gathering information about nicotine on line, watching Nasia Davos or Reading Allan Carr's book which you will find links to with my last story i posted "Group Participation, Hints and Tips" , I am sure you will find something to make this your last quit!

All the best to you going forward. Think positive and stay free.

Hi davegoodo, I too have had a few attempts, and also had a problem with the thought of the Never again concept. Yes one day at a time is the best way to keep you on track for as long as you want, along with reading or posting on this forum. Yes you will eventually try and come to some sort of mental challenge regarding the forever bit which is more personal to you. I found my way of talking to myself with words like short term and long term was more acceptable. It was actually after seeing the video about 3 months later by (NASIA DAVOS "How to be a happy non smoker" TEDxUniversityof Piraeus.) that I realized my belief in myself was lacking even though I had the determination, I have since improved on my "Self Belief" and can now honestly say Long Term has become Never. Something will resonate with you when you are ready.

Thanks to all those who posted to me. I have one cig left. I'm having panic atttacks. I'm thinking of getting just one more pack and postponing. I feel disappointment to those who have supported me, Nuts, Softly40, Happiness, it has been very moving. I hope you don't dessert me. I'm going to keep in touch because even if I pick up this forum works. I'm going to watch the TEDx video of Nasia Davos, that sounds motivating. Thanks until next time.

Dave.

Panic and Anxiety are not conductive to quitting smoking. You have to WANT to quit and BELIEVE that you can. Since you are going to delay your quit why not look at My posting of "Have You Given Up Givin Up? Try This". I like to think of it as my backwards quit. Something I might have done had I not already quit.

When you decide to quit, we know the reasons and cannot argue them, yet a part of us refuses to let go. Fear of the unknown? Fear of failure? You may WANT to quit, but need assurance and support to encourage you. You need to learn to really want to quit. Knowledge can show you more reasons. Support and advice can give you the tools to work with and ideas to embrace. We have done it and we can give you the confidence that you can do it too.

My backwards quit is accepting and embracing the journey which is 80% psychological and even with Nrt you have to eventually break the nicotine addiction. Smoke while you learn about nicotine, make it uncomfortable . Take your fix like you would as a medicine, as that is somewhat true. We smoke to relieve the craving that it itself causes. Do you want to me medicated forever?

Changing how you look at something can help to bring necessary changes about. Reteach the mind. Once you stop wanting a cigarette more than you want to smoke you will quit. Learn the truth, embrace the journey instead of fearing it.

You can still quit while learning about nicotine first. Read Allan Carr which i have also posted. A must read for all . Click on my name here and find these two posts. Give them some serious thought. My quit was actually easy and yours could be too. I guess those who found it easy don't thing they need a quit forum. My hubby and daughter both quit easily after reading Allan Carr. Hubby didn't join ICanQuit , but reads everything. I joined my first quit forum and then quit.

I cannot stress enough that mindset is key. Want to, Believe you can and you will. Think positive.

Happiness, would you tell me where your story is? I've tried entering the name "Have you given up, givin up" into the ICanQuit search engine but I can't find it, could you point me in the direction please? Thanks.

Hi Dave. Sometimes i have difficulty in copying the links for some reason. If you click on my name right here.... and go to page 4 (at this time) and it will let further back when i post more stories. "If You've Given Up Givin Up. Try This!" I would love to hear if it was of any help to you.

Hi Dave. I see that you looked at my post of Given Up Given Up and I hope that you tried it and are taking time adjusting your mindset, or better yet free of the nasty addiction. Let us know how you are doing buddy. Don't let another year pass as has been your way of the past. Have you followed our stories? Did you see how Pisces grasped the concept and is totally a happy non-smoker in just a month!!!

Keep thinking of cigarettes as nasty because they are. They do not deserve your loyalty to them. They have taken everything from you with nothing in return except an empty illusion and lack of self confidence. Join us , a group of people who are truly friends and have your best interest at heart.

If at first you don't succeed , try and try again.

You can quit smoking. Read Allan Carr. Really read and absorb the thoughts. Let desire to become a non-smoker like those here overcome your desire to smoke. Find my story and link to the book that can be life changing.

Change your mind, change the future.
