Welcome Nitinsail, your Alcohol seems to have been the longest abstinence more than the smoking. I have never had this problem, but someone else who has quit smoking may have had this to deal with either at the same time or later on.

My dilemma was controlling my eating at the same time as stopping smoking, but I decided to not worry about overeating, or eating the wrong things, (that I knew of) as long as I had a mostly healthy diet with some sweet things now and again. I have started controlling my eating sweet things about a month ago now, and funnily enough do not desire a sweet white wine at evening time. The point I am making is my eating habits had to come second in my thinking, at the beginning.

I don't think you should worry about the drinking side as long as its in moderation, your concentration might be better used in trying again to stop smoking there is no shame in starting again.

Lets face it, you have to choose which one is doing you the most damage long term. Compare the number of cigarettes you have been smoking, and how long you have been smoking and whether you have any health indications pointing you in the direction you need to go. Long term thinking is the key here. Maybe you can let us know, how many cigarettes a day we are talking about.

Welcome Nitinsail. Quitting any detrimental behaviour such as over eating, drinking or smoking has to be a conscience choice. You have joined us here which shows you are serious. Whether or not you can quit two at once is the question at hand.

I have to agree with Softly40 that you need to choose which is doing most harm at present. If it is an alcohol problem that may affect relationships, work, finances, driving under the influence.....all are much more serious to yourself and others. Once getting one addiction under control, you will also gain self esteem and learn strategies to combat the other at a later date. I think that many here joined this forum to quit smoking , but also used it as a stepping stone to better our overall general health whether by exercising or better dietary choices. Your secondary goal may differ , but can also be achieved.

Think positive and given that smoking doesn't take up a lot of your time yet you may not really miss it like us older ones who have relied on it for decades. Only you know you and your limitations. Perhaps beating it first will give you confidence to deal with the bigger issue. Again, only you know you. Do what your gut instinct tells you. You obviously want to change, and CHOOSING to abstain is over half the battle. Let us know if we can help. The beauty of forums is that you are never alone .....
