Facing fear

I have been smoke free for 18 days. GO ME!!

In the last few days I've started noticing some changes/symptoms in myself. The biggest of them being anxiety. I had a moment a couple of hours ago where I blamed being nicotine free for these 'new' issues but then I got thinking about this forum and remembered what you would all tell me about having a positive mindset and I realised that these arnt 'new' issues at all I've had them all along its just now I can't hide them behind the nicotine and instead I'm forced to address my issues. After sitting with this realisation for a while it has occurred to me that one of the reasons I 'didn't want to quit' to begin with was the fear of the damage I had already done to my body and knowing that I would have to face the consequences of my poor choices. I'm so glad I have quit now instead of waiting another 1,5, or 10 years and I'm so grateful for the opportunity to face my anxiety and work through my triggers I know it will allow me to be a better mother, partner and person.

Heres to facing our fears and learning from our mistakes.

Wow ! You Go Girl! I can't believe the change in you and the change particularly in your attitude. I am glad that you found the reasons to continue on your journey, and so happy that you have made it successfully. Now you just have to remember NOPE....not one puff ever! You have chosen to be a non-smoker and worked hard for that privilege, don't blow it! We cannot change the past but only make our future a brighter one. Congrats!

So true Kirk88, these are old issues we couldn't face at the time, instead we chose to go have a smoke, then you think everything will right itself. Ah for that one minute we let ourselves off the hook, only to get hooked up to a worse situation, it never works.

You are learning fast and great news on 18 days. Yes a positive mind set can deliver the same result without the damage to yourself. New good habits are on the way instead. You go girl.

Hi all. I’m new at this. 11 days without nicotine. I couldn’t have done it without this forum that I accidentally found. Thankyou all for your stories. You have kept me on track.

Thanks Nuts. I’ve been a smoker for 48 years and in the last 3 months I’ve had 3 really bad colds. The sicker I got, the more I smoked and so on. It got to the stage I was having trouble breathing which was rather scary. Was gasping for breath every time I moved. It was time to give the nicotine away. I stayed in bed for the first 4 days of quitting. I found it kept me calm and there were no temptations. Yesterday, my 11th day was the most difficult. While I was at work I planned to buy a packet when I knocked off, smoke just one and throw the rest away. Well I surprised myself and didn’t buy them. I was feeling rather proud of myself. I’ve read all of your comments on the forum and you all say it gets easier. Hope it’s soon.

Hi NoDrag. If you have been reading the posts, i hope you understand the NOPE is the mantra of most importance. Just one PuFF, let alone a whole cigarette can set you back to Day 1, Square 1. Don't ever risk it. You are doing amazingly well, on your own, let us help. We have all been there, and guess what???We survived and we will all tell you it is worth it. Don't give up. Don't look back. Read and Lean and Believe. YOu have got this. Find the motivation if you need to ....but..do NOT ever give up.!!
