12 days and counting

It's been 12 days now since a throw that nasty in the garbage. Been smoking for 20 years now, more than half of my existence. Decided to quit because i love my life more than that packed dried leaves in a filter. Everyday is a struggle for me, anxiety breaks in and many sleepless nights. But im hopeful that it will be better soon. I always pray to GOD to give me a peaceful sleep and sound sleep although i seldom had. Usually how many months does insomnia kicks in when you quit? My anxiety is manageable with the help of my family and friends they are a good support system. Just stay focus on your quit reasons and always pray. Keep up an open communications with your support system and eventually will be over this...

It is so awesome to hit day 12...soon to be 2 weeks and then the milestones start piling up. Congratulations on deciding to live healthy and free. No one ever regrets the journey despite the temporary hardships. Everyone reacts differently, but it all passes in time. There are lots of suggestions on line, like reading, relaxing before bed, dim lights, no computers or screens, relaxing music and 4,7,8, breathing . Soothing ocean waves or falling rain sounds can help lull you to sleep. A technique of relaxing every muscle one at a time is another. I am sure you will find something to work for you, or take naps when you can. Unfortunately that just throws my clock off and exasperates the problem.
It sounds like you have a great support system in place. They must be so proud of you. I hope you intend to stay with us here, read the stories and posts to learn about you and nicotine. I believe it also helps to stay on track , and your participation also helps others in turn. All the best to you , and i hope to hear more from you in the future.

Thank you happiness... I do have a great support system... Im looking forward to that day where i can sleep soundly.

Welcome Mirage1880. 20 years is a long time, but some of us oldies have been smoking for more than that, it doesn't matter how long or how many, the problems that the cigarette covers up in the pretence that it quells all fears, or that it soothes you in some way, is false thinking.
You have found one way to deal with any insomnia or any fears and anxious thinking, by praying which means it gives you a measure of comfort you might consider relaxing every muscle in your body slowly, as an added ritual, and believe me by the time you have done this you are helping yourself in tandem with your beliefs.
Another thing to help you relax at night is to write out what you need to do the following day. It helps to clean your slate for the day, and puts any problems to bed for the night. You will resolve them better in the morning rather on stewing on them.
You don't say if you are using any NRT (nicotine replacement therapy) Congratulations for getting to 12 days.

Hi there softly40, thank you for your encouragement really appreciated that one. I've been practicing positive thinking, praying is one of my meditation.... I did use NRT a nicotine patch but eventually stop it after a week because i suspected it that maybe its one reason i couldn't sleep at night... Thank GOD, i don't have cravings on cigarettes. Im more that willing to do this for my health and my family... This is my motivation. I hope this will be the motivation of everyone else... We can do it...
