Champix

Champix has been amazing!

I'm on day 20 and I am 9 days smoke free ^-^

Some days when I'm a bit stressed I'll still use the NRT inhaler but it's been about 2 times since I started Champix.

Previously to starting Champix I was using patches for about 3 weeks, also using gum and the inhaler when needed. I had been cutting down smoking as well during those 3 weeks.

The patches gave me strange dreams, nothing scary, just abnormal lol. Champix has given me two nightmares that were a bit disturbing so to combat this I take two tablets in the morning and none at night, no more bad or abnormal dreams.

Two side effects I have been experiencing is smelly gas, like a lot! I've changed my diet to lactose free and gluten free, as well as avoiding foods that can cause flatulence, however it's still a problem. I'm going to speak to my doctor about it when I see him next week for my next prescription of Champix.

My other side effect is fatigue. I'm usually very bubbly and energetic all day long, but now I tend to get very tired after lunch and need a nap or struggle to continue working even after having coffee or having something to eat like a banana or apple. Again this is something I'll bring up with my doctor next week.

Overall the side effects do not outweigh the benefit! I'm 9 days smoke free!! I'd been a smoker for 10 years. I decided to quit because my 4 year old son would tell me I'm going to die ever time I'd go out for a smoke o_O He's very proud of me for quitting.

Be proud of yourself! We and your son are happy for you and proud of you! I am sure your side effects and what the doctor says will be of interest to others with similar experience, so please post the outcome. I think most of us have also taken on better health issues like exercise and diet when we start this journey, after all we are wanting to better our chances of survival. This may account for tiredness and flatulence to some degree.

As an interesting fact, we all smoke more when we drink. That is because our bodies are on a clock to need our nicotine fix, and alcohol absorbs the nicotine making us reach for our cigarettes more often.

On the other hand, nicotine used to diminish the effects of caffeine. That is why when you quit nicotine you should cut your caffeine intake by half. Drinking lots of water to detoxify and exercise are also recommended when quitting. Eating nutritionally and eating that breakfast that many of us skipped also helps. Cravings are generally just thoughts. Thinking that you are starving the nicotine monster out of your life is a positive thought. You are winning!

Welcome piineeapple, I am on Champix, or should I say weaning myself off Champix. I couldn't tolerate the night dose, but only took the morning dose, (I didn't double up) which was not the cause of any flatulance, I did have fatigue, but I don't think this was attributed to the Champix, it was my body adjusting to the new norm, my dietary intake I have had to sort out in the past, and lots more fruit certainly proved more regularity than before.

Talk with your Doctor by all means to make sure, and Congratulations on 20 days. I love that comment from Happiness "Think you are starving the Nicotine Monster" out of your life. Keep that in mind, when you recognise changes in your body.

Maybe ask your Doctor about any De Gas tabs while you are there but Fruit is the best option I think.
