Millionth quit attempt

Posted in Quit experiences
schedule 9 Jul 2019

I have tried numerous times to quit but I am determined to not give in this time. I have the quit app, patches and nicotine gum, I am on day 2 today, I won’t lie otherwise I would be lying to myself but... I have had 5 smokes since I started this attempt but this morning I had one rollie and I started coughing my guys up. It’s hard because my mother smokes and she lives with me but... I went all day at work without one and this afternoon I said no more ever! So.. my journey is now truly beginning

:-) plus my husband is very supportive because he went through this journey 4 years ago and is still smoke free, so that’s my story.

Ok. The biggest thing you need is a true desire to quit. Everything else is just secondary really. Others in here can link motivation things that can help you change your mindset about smoking.

You can do it Deb! And I promise its ssooooooooo worth it!!

Cravings aren’t too bad right now, but the worst is yet to come I am guessing. Watch this space :-D

Hi DebbieDee. I think that cravings generally get less intense and further apart. Only you can control how you think and how you accept this journey. If you don't believe, you won't succeed. Despite past attempts, you can win this battle which is won in the mind. When you make up your mind to do something, you do it. Find the mindset by reading Allan Carr's book which i have posted, and also by reading stories and the comments here. I and others offer suggestions which can help to make the journey easier. It really is as hard or easy as you make it.

I smoked in the house with my partner who continued to smoke right beside me. Of course he offered to go outside, but it didn't bother me. Only I could make the choice to quit and put things in perspective. If you truly want to quit, you will. There are ways to find the desire to quit.

Replacing the jolts of dopamine which nicotine gave us is what we crave. Find other ways to get your fix of dopamine through things that make us happy. Favourite food, chocolate, music, lavender, hugs, love, good thoughts.....Learning is especially rewarding, so perhaps take up a new hobby, knit, sew, play an instrument, or simply research and learn about nicotine and take part in our community. I think it had some bearing on my easy journey to becoming a happy non-smoker. You will not be happy if you continue to feel as though you are missing something.

Envisioning yourself as a non-smoker, healthier , looking better, with money in your pocket and pride in your heart and striving to be that person, can make it possible. Think positive. You can do it.

Hi Deb. Too bad Mum smokes. Take a leaf out of your husband's book and join him in the quitters' circle.

If you think about it, smoking is just a mere cigarette and lighter away. No one has died from quitting but there are more coffin nails for smokers. You do have a choice, you know. I must say, I have enjoyed the $32000 saved from the ash tray, not to mention fewer wrinkles and easy breathing. Food tastes good, too. Just give it some serious thought.

Its a new day, and every day that you learn and take pride in your accomplishment brings you one day closer to freedom. Make yourself comfortable on the nrt gum. The longest part of the journey is retraining our mind to accepting that we are non-smokers. Fill the voids left by the bad habit with a new one like exercise or learning. These acts bring pleasure and produce dopamine as nicotine did. I should think you will need less and less gum as you become comfortable with your new life by deriving pleasure from other sources. Learn about the mindset that makes this journey so much easier. See how others succeeded and believe that you can too, because you can!
