Taking Responsibility

schedule 7 Feb 2019

Hi all, well here I go AGAIN giving up. I am in a great state of mind this time, feeling very positive. I am on day 3 using Champix and motivation tapes. I feel I am coping better with cravings when I am alone. I drink heaps of water and breathe ALOT, telling myself I can do this!! Smoking has controlled my life and my health and now it is time I take control before they kill me!! I have had a bypass and heart attack which almost killed me, chronic bronchitis (i cant breathe), diabetic, and neuropathy (nerve damage) in my feet and legs. So now I am taking responsibility for the damage I have done to myself because I chose to smoke for about 48 years. I used to smoke up to 70 a day and it has taken me years of trying to quit to get down to 30 a day. Now I QUIT ... now I fight my DEMON the smoke and I know this time I am STRONG ENOUGH TO DO IT. Good luck to all of us on this journey WE CAN DO THIS!!

Hi Aussie Dreamer. I am so glad you are back to give it another try. Have you been reading all of our posts and keeping up since your last attempt to quit in April? You are in a bad way my friend, so i will pull no punches. Champix alone will not save you. You have to save yourself, from yourself.

Anyone can quit smoking, even a 70 a day smoker like yourself. In all this time have you changed the way you look at a cigarette? How you look at yourself? Have you changed where, when and how you smoke? Have you determined Why you smoke?

Now i don't imagine it is easy for you, now with feet problems as well, and not being able to hardly breathe due to what smoking has done to you, but only you have the ability to change that. Until you face that, nothing will change...... but someday you will get your dream......

So put aside all the self pity and loathing and put all that feeling into despising the cigarette. Yes, once we were victims... but now we are not. That excuse no longer holds. We do have the power to choose how we want to live. We can change things day by day, step by step to regain control...

I did cold turkey, over in 4 days... but although the nicotine will be gone the psychological cravings would still be here 3 months later and longer if i still WANTED TO SMOKE! I wanted to quit smoking, in my heart and mind. That is the difference in a nutshell. That is how you need to feel and believe. I can't imagine that would be too hard for you to do now, given your health.

I do hope you believe that i am only trying to help here. I am not being cruel, just try to reach through to you, to get you to understand. Last time you were on Champix for 3 weeks, and got down to 12 a day. My understanding is that you start Champix and generally stop smoking in about 10 days. Champix stops our minds from getting the pleasure from smoking by blocking the nicotine sensors. You also have to train your mind and body as not to take any pleasure from smoking. If you had to get out of your chair, and yes it would be painful for you, but if that is what it is worth to have that cigarette, then that is what you do. Once you hold that precious piece of crap, smell it. Light it and swish it around your mouth. Taste the poison... and remember what it has cost you in dollars, health and freedom. Even now, it is costing your freedom as you stand there in pain, sucking on it, while it drains you of energy and breathing rights. EVERY time you relent for a cigarette, you do this.... see how it rules your life. These smoke times are for just you and it, one on one. Love it or hate it. If you want to cozy up to it in your chair again, remember who did the inviting.

It doesn't have to just be a dream Aussie, make it a reality!

Thanks Happiness I have tried to quit 7 times on Champix but this time I feel and am approaching it differently than before. I know I need to step up and not smoke even one. I am on day 18 Champix still smoking one a day to take edge off but that is about to stop as I feel disappointed in myself even though just having a couple of drags at a time. I am seeing I need to fight harder and I can do this. Reading your stories is helping me heaps. Thanks everyone.

Be Proud of Yourself Aussie dreamer. You are doing great! When i write, it isn't always personal because there is so little information available. Sometimes, i go back and read stories and do some guesswork. I am not always right, but hope than when i do write something that does pertain to someone else and may be of help. I am glad you are doing so well. Keep it up and make your dream a reality. It is closer every day!

How's it going Aussie dreamer. I do hope you found a way to get through the night and get proper rest for this journey. I am truly hoping that you managed to just stop sneaking those few puffs that keep the nicotine monster alive.

You have come so far... from 70 to 40 to 12 . Did you manage to stay at 12 the last time. I understand that many people end up smoking more. You are doing an amazing job, and i do hope we get news that you have stayed that nicotine monster very soon. No one can expect to stay at such a small dosage of nicotine... that is self torture. You have endured nicotine withdrawl for months.... make the final jump. We have had confirmation that the cravings with be no worse, and at least you will have the satisfaction of knowing the nicotine monster is dead. That may lead to even more positive thoughts and mindset going forward. You are soooo close to complete success.

I know you can do this, and look forward to your reply.
