Cannot sleep

Day 7-the hardest yet. Cannot sleep so am trying to practise the 4-7-8 breathing technique.

I does get easier Smnt. Good for you for taking on this terrific journey to freedom. Others may have better suggestions for your sleep problems. Catch up with naps and keep up your strength and resolve.Best to you. You can do this, keep up the good work.

Smnt, I am in to two weeks today, and I still have trouble sleeping at night. I don’t know if this works for you, but I planned my whole life around the QUIT itself for at lesst 2 months. I do not plan on to falling back to that horrendous habit we thought we enjoyed. I also, tried the 4-7-8 breathing exercise before bed and it seemed like it helped but it didn’t fix it. So I just read, watched, and whole heartedly indulged myself like i would spoil a child who likes candy. The first week i fed myself whatever, soept when ever, exercised when i felt but tried to incorporate it everyday for an hour atleast, cos I did gain weight. But I was prepared for it. 2nd week i am more confident in social outings and being around smokers a bit even though im not pushing it to the limit. Sleeping situation is still not as how I would like it to be, but I think when i start going on a strict diet and extensive exercise that i planned for the rest of the week it should become more easier.

Thankyou Anami and Happiness for your comments. I too am using the strategy of not worrying about diet, exercise and non-essential commitments for first week. I usually exercise and eat healthily but over past week have just focussed on not giving in. I have also been drinking lots of water. Today starts week 2. Feeling terrible physically but will start process of curtailing ‘junk’ food and some gentle exercise. I don’t intend failing. The effort not to smoke and to simply cope with the cravings is all consuming. It has shocked me to realise how much of life had adjusted to accommodate smoking habit.

Nicotine used to diminish the effects of caffeine, so that we should cut back half of our caffeine when we no longer use nicotine. This , and perhaps too much sugar in your diet may also have bearing on your sleep. I hope you find a solution that works for you.

All my life I've never been able to sleep unless it's quiet (like the tomb) I thought I'd try something different now I don't smoke & downloaded some relaxation music & put it on when I go to bed, sleeping like a log (apart from the nature calls at my age) but, 21 days smoke free & it's all great

I tried the 4-7-8 breathing last night and don't remember after the third time. It works. Thanks for the tip.
