Struggling..

I’ve been quit since August 11th but have really been struggling recently. I had a slip up in Oct where I smoked a couple of fags on a night out, but have had a bit more of a blip in the last week and feel so ashamed of myself but at the same time tempted to just kick it all in. I’ve been off work with depression for the last month and the temptation to smoke just to get that lovely nicotine rush was too much last weekend so I went out and bought myself a pack of baccy.. massive mistake.. I ended up smoking 3 on the Friday and then 1 on both the Saturday and Sunday and boy was the rush good!! I’ve been thinking about it all week, and I know I need to just get rid of the baccy in question so it’s not there to tempt me, but it feels like letting go of a comfort blanket as I’ve been using it to bargain with myself as a potential reward for sorting out other aspects of my life.. need something to re-motivate me and get me back on track again- is there anything that has worked for anyone else on here?

Hi, I’m quitting by doing the QSN program I’m only on day 4 of no smokes and I need a fair bit of will power. I’m finding it takes the edge of a little bit because I’m not cranky like I have been before. ??? Early days though. All the best.

Red-67 and Robn are correct about making it easy or hard. You have to be in the right mind set to do it easily, and i am afraid you are not there yet. I quit cold turkey , no cravings in 5 days, but you have to Want to be a non-smoker, not just abstain , you have to stop your brain for yearning the cigarette.(loath it) You need to have other ways of coping with stress, socializing, and confidence like a non-smoker does. Once you can see your self as a Happy Non-Smoker, then you will become one and put all those cravings behind you.
The mind set is learned in Allan Carr's books. I got a copy from the library. ( i quit before i read it and am only half way through it) Others here would be able to better advise you on what method or combined methods would be most suitable for your immediate quit at this time. I am sure you will find the way to freedom if you truly wish it.

Hi Noodleworm. I hope life is treating you well. I was wondering if things in your life have stabilized enough yet to contemplate being a non-smoker again. You know how to deal with it now, it should be easier for you now in some regards. Just hoping you will think about it. My friend was successful on Champix, and you seemed to be doing well on it too. Read some posts and see if we can change your mind. All the Best. Happiness.

Hi @Happiness, thank you so much for your comment! It's nice to be able to look at this again now that I'm in a better place, and I'm pleased to say that just writing this post actually gave me the push to just chuck the offending tobacco products away. Mind you, I have had another slip up since then- but I figure it's not always going to be a straight path, and other than 2 cigarettes I've been smoke free since this post so I'm not going to beat myself up about it!

As long as you haven't given up on given up, there is hope. When you do think of it though, please refrain from the negative and use positive like breaking the addiction, going home, ending the slavery or what ever term helps you in this regard. I hope you will be returning to the fold here soon.
