Help me to quit in the right way
I've tried to quit smoking 3 times already. The first time I didn't smoke for almost 2 months but I put on 6kg and as soon as the stress came back I started smoking again.
What is the best way to start? Would you use nicotine patch or gums and which one is best? How did you deal with the hunger and gain weight? How did you deal with the stress?

Hi Stefania
Welcome to ICanQuit, and know that you certainly can. You will get friendly support and advice. You do have some concerns. I invite you to follow my posts by clicking follow and my avatar. I hope you will find some information useful. There is a lot to absorb but i think it will benefit your quit in what ever way you choose. Best of luck on your journey. p.s please don't skip reading it because i went cold -turkey, there are still useful tidbits you can apply.
I know how you feel I hear you and understand that smoking is very difficult and hard but I'm here to help you as a friend if you can help me with my smoking problem as well
We do have a deal Jessica! I'm triyng a combo of patch amd gum and it' been 2 days that I'm not craving a cigarette...how you doing?

I already gave you some advice earlier, but as you seem concerned with your weight gain and hence stress i would encourage you to simply make better food choices. Try the Mediterranean Diet which basically cuts down on red meat, encourages more fruits and vegetables, olive oil.... less of this, more of that. It is not a diet, just choices. Ginger and Cinnamon are both good for weight loss (not too much cinnamon which causes side effects) Everything in moderation. Check with your doctor if on meds, but then in moderation most anything is fine. Cut out processed foods and sugar are big to make you smaller and healthier. Spice up your life and reap the benefits of a lot of spices. Garlic has amazing powers. Turmeric and Ginger are my go to in a chicken rice soup or just broth to sip on. I hope these tips are useful.
Thanks Happinsss this is really helpful I'll try to go with this "diet" and let you know how it will go!

How is the quit going Stephanie? I gather that you are about 20 days smoke-free on patch and gum. How are you feeling? Any Nrt changes? I haven't seen you on here lately, so i hope you are staying quit and just reading and learning. Although on Nrt;s i do hope you are taking this time to learn the 4 D's to cut down on the gum and learn about the mindset. Quitting can be easier with the right tools. Never give up, practice makes perfect.
I hope the Mediterranean diet is working for you. I should think it would at least maintain your weight without ever having to feel hungry. A few years ago i did try the cabbage soup diet where you just ate it.. after 3 days.. yuck. I did lose a bit but put it right back on. So i made a cabbage soup last year to fill me while trying to cut down and lose weight. I tried to cut calories that i needed (determined by a chart) by 500 calories a day or 1 lb a week goal. In less than a week i had lost 11 lbs. but after that it got slower. I guess most of it was water (cut down on salt too) Over the course of 2 months i was down 15 lbs and kept it off. I hope you are seeing some results with your efforts.
You are worth doing all you can do to be your best. Make up your mind to do something and there will be no stopping you!

Hello stephania. Your absence makes me think that things didn't go to plan. Never fear, many don't succeed and first. Try and try again, as they say. I am hoping you will take a moment to read my post entitled "'Have you GivenUp Given Up? Try This!!!)
You deserve to achieve your goals, and this is one that is achievable and so worth while. Please take the time to read and give it some thought. I hope to be seeing you around soon. Take care!
