Staying Busy! Too Sleepy?

schedule 23 Sep 2018

This my first Comment. I’m going one day even hour at a time. 40 plus year smoker. Last Moday at noon was my last regular brand smoke. I’m not shouting to the world I quit smoking. I slipped Thursday. Got a light off brand pack of smokes. I don’t really have urge to smoke? It’s just the HABIT OF REACHING. I turned 60 this month. And I’m over due to quit! 10 cigarettes to what was about 30 or 40 a day? Is almost a miracle. If I don’t get quit? I’m in trouble with my health. I just started noticing a couple things that are signs I had better quit! Or I’m in trouble! So I’m doing for myself. And my family. Before I do end up with bad health issues? I’ve got no one to blame but myself. I have to do for MYSELF FIRST! I stopped Cold Turkey. My husband and kids know I’m trying. I told them I slipped. I do not want to sneak around or lie to them. I know this happens. But does NO GOOD FOR SELF OR FAMILY. Good Luck to all. This will not be easy. After 40 plus years. I have never been this sleepy in my life?! Thanks, to all here? I’m not sure how this site works? But I’ll check back and do more reading later.

Hi Susie!! Same boat! been smoking over 40 yrs! turning 60 in less than 2 yrs! High time to drop it!...its become more of a hindrance to me as time went on!... i've tried countless times! too embarrassed to tell. So far been smokeless since sept 5th, so 17 days today! No nicotine replacement...which i always fell back on in the past! I did to the 4 wk champix however! today is last day..there was zero refill on my prescription! seems short..others go longer!!! ..will see!

taking it day by day..moment by moment if i must! I had accumulated craft supplies in the months ahead to keep myself busy over the winter...keep hands n mind busy...have to expect an adjustment period...it is the habit that seems to worse! i just don't want to cave..hang in there with me! we can do this!

You can do it. It will be hard at times, I know, I had my last cigarette on 01 Oct (midday to be precise). Like you I smoked for nearly 50 years. I find that Nicorette spray helps with me to get over or at least deal with the worst of the cravings when they hit. NRT may help you as well, I'm no expert and we are all different so please find what works best for you. All I can offer is the advice provided by others on this site and that is that cigarettes are not the answer and that you can quit, just take it a day at a time and don't give in to the addiction. Best of luck.

Keep fighting it Susie, and as John says, do whatever works except to take that puff!...the cravings do grow further apart, and less intense. I have this app that tells me i am 40 days in, saved 268.70 and have NOT smoked 480 cigs! wow! it's hard for even me to believe!

My after dinner is a chocolate covered mint. I keep busy! both mind n hands...just don't cave!!! rooting for you!! :) stay strong!
